*eyeroll* We protect the president and his family. Donald Trump has a little more than twice the immediate family member of Barack Obama and his costs are....shocking, a little more than twice as much. So basically it's the same expense as with Obama.

See, this is the kind of nonsense that makes the left look stupid.

And why the fuck do we protect past Presidents and their families for as long as we do? They were going to put a 10 year limit on it, then said "Nah!" I think a fucking four year limit is fine. After that Presidents should be responsible for their own security. Even Tricky fucking Dick went the private security route.
We protect the adult children of presidents for the same reason we protect their spouses. They're very useful tools if bad people get ahold of them. Would you want a president making choices concerning national security if their 25-year-old kid were being held by foreign powers?

A President has to be able to make those choices. They make those choices every fucking day when other people's children's lives are at stake (often minors, not adults). If they can't do it--then they're not fit to be President.
And it still doesn't explain why the fuck we still protect past Presidents. They can afford their own damn security. (Just as the adult children of Presidents can afford their own)

Not to mention that as much as the expense sounds, it's not much more than a rounding error compared to the national budget. I dislike the man as much as the next person and fully support holding him accountable, but this is just silly.

But why protect them, then, in the case when the bad people already got their hooks into them before Drumpfuck was elected?

Do you really think anyone is going to be as cold and calculating when their family is on the line as when faceless it's faceless strangers?

So, we should only offer protection to presidential families on a case by case basis? Who gets to decide which are worthy and which aren't?

No.

More a case of you shouldn't be letting it up to a traitor's cronies to decide if he retains the most powerful seat in the land.
Oh, and in the case of Drumpfuck, surely his family are rich enough to afford their own protection? I know he's lied every single other time he's talked in his life, but surely as a rich and powerful man we can trust Drumpfuck to tell the truth when he tells us he's not broke, bigly.

Quote:the total for Trump's first 100 days was at least $30 million. By comparison, the conservative think tank Judicial Watch found that costs for President Barack Obama and his much smaller family averaged $12 million a year.
In the federal budget compromise reached last week, Congress allocated the Secret Service an additional $13 million to cover unanticipated overtime for its agents. It also set aside an extra $61 million to reimburse New York and Palm Beach for some of their expenses incurred since the election to protect the first family.
$74 million is a metric fuckton of money.... for a country which always claims it is broke....until it is time to cut taxes on billionaires!
