Sex and religion was a common combo. Part of the Council of Nicaea's work was to stamp out some sexual stuff that had worked it's way into the nascent Christianity.
And within a couple centuries of that, we see in the earliest extant records of the Catholic Church incidents of priestly pedophilia and those records continue to document abuse for 1500 years to our era. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
I wonder what passed for "communion/transubstantiation" there?

Especially for the church leaders. And frequently with children. Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???" |
