Santarém... Quite a nice place to visit, if you ever drop by Portugal.

This is a statue of our first king, called "Dom Afonso Henriques", from way back in 1139.


A view over the River Tagus (we call it Tejo) (don't know why google photos doesn't detect the first image as being part of the panorama...)


Monastery of St. Francis.... Was built in the 1200's, for the Franciscans and, when the religious orders were abolished in the 1800's, was used as stables for the military. It's being recovered, but... it'll take some work.
The cloister looks nice, though:


Town market (what you guys may call a farmer's market - dedicated to veggies, fruit and fish, mostly)


This city has tons and tons of churches... some within the same street. Most are considered to be from the Gothic period... they even call Santarém the capital of the Gothic.

Right next to this church, was a museum of religious art, where I found this curious piece... it's supposed to represent "the holy trinity"


Near Santarém, in Alpiarça, we can find this nice dam


Walking along the shore, the kids found a few bugs...

I thought I was a dog guy but I've never regurgitated food directly into my dog's mouth.  Kudos my man, major kudos to you.  You are the dog-upchucker.

Caught a pic of Smoke doing his yoga out by the pond today.  I think he calls this asana the Digging Dog.




Had four more friends to tea this morning.  I think this is going to replace our big annual garden/studio party.  I took a few snaps around the garden after everyone left.

Gaudi's work is nice... Good plan!

Gardens...popular... I wouldn't say so. Not your style of garden, at least.
Some people do have their garden, and there's a freely accessible botanical garden in Lisbon with plants from Africa and India... But we're more into parks with lots of trees.

Lexy is freaking a little. Nico is in his element, protection from invaders. Damn Mongolians!

Tried melatonin? Can help to take the stress edge off. We are giving it to Lexy until after the 4th. For Nanners the appropriate dose would be 3mg, up to 3x/day.

Have you guys tried the Thunder Shirt? I hear it is really great!
