Yeah, autumn finally landed here. I love Texas summers in part for the heat -- but by the beginning of August I'm looking forward to October.

Got up to 82 today, but Sunday should just be 72, which is much better. Last week was stupid hot, hitting 99 in my hood a few days back.
We're known for our "good weather" here. People move here based on that alone (dumb). I had no choice. Fell out of the womb here.

As promised some time ago... Photos from my most recent state parks trip. Castlewood Canyon and Roxborough State Parks
First stop was at Castlewood Canyon. Castlewood Canyon is a small canyon on the high plains carved out by Cherry Creek. It was dammed from 1890 to 1933 when the dam burst sending a 15 foot wall of water into downtown Denver.
A couple photos from the canyon rim.
Looking upstream to the Cherry Creek bridge:
And, downstream farther into the canyon:

A nice slow corner of the creek, perfect for wading and cooling off a bit:

More photos from along the Inner Canyon Trail:
At this point, I'm walking on the old lake bed. How
anyone could have intentionally flooded this naturally beautiful area is absolutely beyond me!
In the following photo you can see the silt-up on the left and right. It's clearly delineated by the abrupt change from forested land to grass land. This is the highest level of the reservoir. There are trees coming back on the old lake bed, but none that are nearly as tall as those above that line.
Something I didn't expect to find in the park:
Apple trees... Not indigenous to the area.
The were planted for the dam caretaker and his family. Housing was provided though not much is left today:

Some of the wildflowers that were blooming on this trip (and me getting to play with the macro features):
And, some of the neighbors:
A Bull Snake that was found and used as a teaching tool for the kids that visit Castlewood, caught by a local parks volunteer:
A lizard that was sunning himself at Roxborough:
Momma deer I spotted as I was leaving Roxborough:
And, her baby:
