Ah yes.  I've been in protestant churches that were so sick that they even sent missionaries to the Catholics.  Old, old story - THOSE stupid people over there, they don't pray right! They don't interpret the Bible right!  They're not REAL Christians!  Only WE have the answer.  God loves US best.  It's all hideous evil bullshit.  People end up killing each other over their imaginary friend.  If anyone on the planet actually could demonstrate any of these claims, there would be no disagreement.  Words, words, words, supported by absolutely nothing.

Put [-h-I-d-e-] at the beginning and [-/-h-I-d-e-] at the very end of the quote.

If they are doing things right... then should the presit at least be privy to these gifts? why should he have to ask?

Why would you think that? Be honest. Perhaps it is because you are tucked safely inside the bubble of your own religion and you're unaware that believers belonging to contradictory religions have been claiming miracles for thousands of years. For instance Cat Stevens aka Yusuf Islam believes Allah saved his life so he turned to Islam.

drfuzzy Wrote:so the Priest was going on about the "gifts of the Spirit".  Healings, miracles, speaking in tongues, stuff that you usually don't talk about in a Catholic Church.  And this is a young (late 20's) intense, zealous guy.  And he was just ripping into the congregation: "If you would get down on your knees every single day and DEMAND that the Spirit keep his promises, everything in your life would improve!  The Holy Spirit fixes what we cannot!

I really don't understand why Christians think that Holy Spirit fixes things? Was it because of Jesus? If we follow the Gospels we can see Jesus was liar and a lunatic: Jesus implicitly believed the utterly erroneous view of life presented in the Jewish books; he believed that all diseases were due to possession by demons, and that the end of the world was near. He was not omnipotent, and had not the power to fashion the hearts and minds of men otherwise than they were. Vowing terrible vengeance on the cities which did not bow down to his crude and illiterate disciples. He thought it not unnatural that other people should regard him as insane; or that God should not be quite sure when he would destroy the world, but tentatively put it about the year 70.

I mean if they believe in Jesus because of his supposed healing powers then why not better embrace medical science since it is far more superior then Jesus and people of 2000 years ago who saw illnesses were due to diabolical possession? What do they think Jesus will heal them by throwing their disease to heard of swines?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

As I have said before it supports a corrupt version of God to you. Let's say you believe God trades good deed for answering prayers. you do a few good deeds and ask god for a car and boom you get a car. now in minds eye this is how God works.

Or perhaps it is you who does not understand God is not the only one in a position to 'answer prayers.'

It is through scripture and how the prayer is answered can we know who granted us our request.

Quote: For instance Cat Stevens aka Yusuf Islam believes Allah saved his life so he turned to Islam.
Then this guy does not understand his religion.
Allah does not save his own from death, he rewards them for dying. He has far less compassion for infidels. Lest he believe's himself a prophet.. which can only be or from mo-ham to be considered legit.

I'm not saying this douche could convert to islam, What I am saying is Islam does not support his conversion story. Meaning his conversion is not supported in his scripture nor is their a precedent for it.

He has seemingly taken a Christian precept and put a Islamic title on it.

Who else answers prayers? Gandalf?
