Quote:A fateful decision made in 1960s China reverberates in the present, where a group of scientists partner with a detective to confront an existential planetary threat.
Great beginning, the first five minutes hooks you. I'm just hoping it isn't going to turn into one of those god is real traps.
Thirty minutes in, I'm thinking maybe a religious cult has found a way to attack scientific minds.
Had to look it up before I invested anymore time.
Quote:The series also seems to be wrestling with some ideas about faith and belief, with a faction of earthlings seeing these aliens as godlike saviors.
BENIOFF Two characters ask in the opening 10 minutes or so, “Do you believe in God?” That’s interesting for a series that’s a science fiction show, not really a religious show. Those questions are also asked in the books, and we thought it was fascinating, that link between believing in a superior something out there and believing in the divine.
WEISS I think a lot of people who were writing religious literature or fiction 200 years ago, or in the 1700s, would have been writing science fiction in the 20th century, when the genre came into its own. The series looks at this idea of believing in something that’s so overwhelmingly superior to you, at least on the surface, that you can’t even conceive of what their motivations might be for doing what they’re doing.
The three-body problem describes the motion of three-point mass particles under their mutual gravitational interactions. This is a classical problem that covers a large range of situations in astrodynamics. An instance of such situations is the motion of the Moon about the Earth under the influence of the Sun.

Didn't care for the ending of The Gentlemen. The main character spends most of the season attempting to get rid of the dirty business and then for no reason becomes a bad guy. I just didn't buy it.
Bored, with nothing on my list, checking out Obliterated

I watched the first two episodes of The Three Body Problem tonight. The three-body problem fascinated me in college. My final project for FORTRAN was a program which would simulate the interactions of three bodies.
