How do we as a society combat ignorance?

What, is there a problem with people being ignorant?
First I've heard about it. But seriously, teach critical thinking at schools, starting at the youngest age possible. 
I don't know if it's just ignorance. I think the problem is that people don't know things, but also that they believe the wrong things to be true. And will argue forever about it.

I was just going to post about executing those who promote ignorance: creationists, conspiracy nut jobs, anti-science morons, etc.
Dying to live, living to die.
There's a pending bill in my state that would require teaching critical thinking skills, especially when it comes to media and technology.

I do the best I can to teach my own child how to think for herself and not get led down the garden path, but it needs to be reinforced in schools also. -Teresa
