Story time!
Once there were two men who ventured off into a foreign land.
One man was honest but simple and always told the truth. One man as devious and always said whatever would benefit himself.
They traveled and found a king of a strange kingdom.
The liar told the king that he was a magnificent king, that all his subjects adored him, that historians would surely speak his praises to the end of days.
The king hearing this, rewarded the liar handsomely from his treasury of ill gotten goods.
The honest man thought to himself: if such is the reward for fiction, how much would the reward be for the truth!
So the honest man told the king the truth: that he was a dictator, that his subjects' lives were abject and fearful because of his policies, that unless he changed history would surely number him as just another in a long line of poor leaders.
In a fit of anger, the king had his guards kill the honest man.

Let's say that the nightmare is true: God exist, but he is every bit the cruel and vain creature portrayed.
What would you do?
Fight the power, knowing it is a futile struggle?
Do whatever is necessary for self-preservation, as distasteful as it is?
