Here's a clue: it rhymes with (that means it sounds like) "diction".

I was going to say, it rhymes with 'illusion'.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

He started reading it specifically because he was being open minded and objective, and wanted to see things from the "other side's" perspective. So he asked one of his atheist friends for a recommendation and that was it. Don't remember specifically what turned him off to it, as it was several years ago now. I'll have to ask.

Thank you. I'd sure like an outsider's perspective on objective facts.

He said that first he was put off by the author's condescending/hostile tone but decided to ignore it and just focus on his argument. He said something about how the author made a whole argument around Einstein being an atheist, which he couldn't take seriously considering Einstein specifically said "I am not an atheist."  He also said the author had a poor understanding of Christianity and of Equinas, basically making some of his arguments strawmen. He said the whole thing with "the Brights" came off as silly and conceited.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

My husband started to read the God Delusion and said it was trash.

Aquinas doesn’t get a mention until chapter three and the the Brights don't show up till chapter nine. And as for Dawkins making a whole argument around Einstein being an atheist? I never read that.

Are you sure he read the thing or did he read an apologists review?
Because this> "condescending/hostile tone" Is typical apologist lies.
Dawkins is unfailingly civil and polite. In his books anyway.

No, he had the book which he borrowed from his friend. He didn't finish it but got to at least half way I think.

Einstein was a pantheist, but hardly spiritual in that, so while technically not an atheist, he was so minutely a theist that it hardly matters. He certainly didn't hold truck with any faith's theistic notions.

Aquinas' arguments are infantile and bogus and have been debunked.

So what I'm hearing is...massive religious-inspired ignorance or bias. Sorry, I know you want to play nice but you don't get to break someone else's toys just because all of yours are already broken.
