Is the fear of irrational fears rational?

Is the fear of irrational fears rational?
The definition of fear is:
an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm.

Fear becomes irrational when their is no actual but perceived danger, pain or harm.

So is the fear of irrational fear a rational or irrational fear?

It depends on the degree of irrationality.

If some one fears falling off the edge of the earth if they sail too far, that is a bit too irrational. But let's say someone doesn't like to walk outside alone at night due to fear of ghosts or monsters, that is still irrational but might it might have some subconscious rational reasoning like maybe they grew up in a dangerous neighborhood, and can be somewhat useful in keeping that person safe.

The whole point of fear is to act as a protection mechanism against perceived threats, and as long as that purpose is served, fear is more or less rational.

Phobophobia is a real thing. By nature and definition as a phobia, it can't be rational.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I have an irrational fear, but I don't fear the fear itself (sorry, Mr. Roosevelt), I fear the object of the fear.

Well my late mother and her sister were always highly strung, as if they had a dread that some unseen thing was out to get them, but they had a good innings and lived into their 70's , thyroid complications eventually killed my mother, and a heart attack killed her sister.so they spent their whole lives living in fear for no reason.
Me, I'm just the opposite, I don't give a rat's rear what punches life might throw at me, so why worry about it..Smile
But then I've got christian values, which undoubtedly help me achieve the right mindset.
Sadly, people without spiritual values are like wagons without springs, jolted by every pebble on the road..

I'd say that based on your time here you should probably fear hell. At a minimum, boils.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.
