White nationalists are clashing with police and counter-protesters at a demonstration protesting the city's decision to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from a public park. A "Unite the Right" rally is also scheduled for noon.

The noon rally was cancelled and the Governor declared a state of emergency, according to the NY Times. The Governor said it correctly - "a right to speech is not a right to violence".
