Dear GOP,
We saw this same fake scolding during 45s run, when he made comments about Hispanics, and McCain and Carly's looks and even Paul Ryan once condemning 45 on comments on blacks. You cannot have it both ways. You cannot reward such vile rhetoric as to claim those standing up to bigotry as being equal to that bigotry.
It has been said by many in recent days and I agree. How many Jews who live in Germany today would like it if there were statues to Goebbles or Rommel or Hitler just because they were part of German history? It is a very vile doge to claim that the left is trying to erase history. No we are not. Slavery should be taught in museums of what not to do to your fellow human beings. Slavery should be taught in history books as a lesson of what not to do to your fellow human beings.
The problem with leaving those statues up, is when they were put up is that they were glorifying those who defended keeping slavery as heros. Blacks feel the same way about those statues as Jews rightfully do about Hitler.
It is time you stop coddling 45 just to keep power and do the right thing. His repeated vilification and dangerous rhetoric cannot be tolerated if one is to claim to value a open pluralistic west. 45 has attacked anyone who challenges his power and has pandered to the worst in our society. No, sorry moderate voters of that party, nobody is claiming everyone who votes GOP are violent bigots. The left is not claiming that one bit. But if you continue to reward 45 by keeping him in office, you will be shitting on the memory of not only MLK, but Heather Herey and all those who died fighting for the end of segregation.
Hate of hate is not the same as promoting hate. There is no other rightful response to Nazi supporters or KKK members than the strongest and blunt condemnation. McCain did the right thing when the lady in the crowed spoke of Obama being "other" despite any loss of votes. If you Mitt or Marco agree that hate has no place in politics, then you know what the right thing is to do. If you do not impeach 45 now, you will be setting the stage for that hate to gain more political power and more violence and even the erosion of our checks on power.
We will not go back to the days of Jim Crow, McCarthyism. We will not allow political vilification and political demagoguery. There is nothing good that can come from leaving 45 in office. He is dangerous to national stability and political civility. Now please do the right thing. Unity cannot be made by repeated vilification in politics. This must end before it is too late.
Sincerely,
The vast majority of Americans.
