Lack of evidence... its a thing.

Well, yeah. I have my reasons for saying that, but if you've got evidence to the contrary, that trumps my suspicion.

Yeah, I *plonk*ed him last week, which is why you don't see me replying to him.

Have a Moose.  Watch some hockey.  Chill.

I haven't had a MooseHead in a billion years. Back in the late 80s early 90s I was really into it. I used to have that with nachos.

And that's fine, I'm not claiming any evidence and don't expect my opinion to be accepted by anyone under those circumstances.

I love Justin Trudeau!

....but....maybe I'm missing something because I'm not at all knowledgeable about Canadian politics or groups. Why is this group considered racist? Is it just because they're anti immigration?

It's there links and support from much less subtle groups  like Radical Quebec nationalists with a racist twist. That cause suspicion that immigration is not there real concern . To be fair this has been a problem in Quebec for decades . And a lot of it comes for Quebec nationalism and a historic anger at immigrants for voting to stay in Canada . Particularly the Jacques Parizeau era nationalists. Who make it clear they blame immigrants for there loses . And of course there is Pauline Marois the latest violence of discontent. Thease people are just a chink  in a long chain of such groups.

I just hope it stays as clashes and we don't get a repeat of the FLQ crisis . I remember that well

Does the Canadian version of the KKK, or Alt right movement have any true political power?

Up until the mid 80's the KKK was a minor but very real political entity and could effect elections in a lot of south east states. (mostly local/city elections but still)

The KKK was opened up to civil action in the mid 80's and were sued into oblivion, now they are social pariahs with no true power at all. In the states these hate groups are a very small percent of the population and when they ID themselves as a member of one of these groups they are pretty much ostracized.

My opinion is that all the protests and counter protests are giving these groups more exposure than they have had in the past 30 years or so. I wonder if the exposure is causing them to grow, it is certainly what they are after. I think the individuals who belong to these groups will not be taken seriously, and have pigeon holed themselves socially and professionally (who is going to hire a nazi or klan member?) The group itself should be ignored, they are not worth the time of effort.

The only KKK rally I have ever seen with my own eyes was about 20 years ago in Thomasville, Alabama. There were about 6 people dressed up in sheets with confederate battle flags on the court house steps. No one was watching. We were getting lunch at a local drive up restaurant, so we watched while the burgers were cooking. I remember the whole thing being pathetic and sad.
