The drug is the first to emerge from Biotecnol’s novel antibody development platform, Trisoma®. It is directed against the 5T4/WAIF1 tumour antigen, a protein found on many different solid tumours and is thought to contribute to the spread of cancer cells.

Tb535H recruits the patient’s T-cells –killer cells of the immune-system – and directs them to attack tumours. This highly targeted approach uses the patient’s own immune system to fight cancer.

The WAIF1 antigen was discovered by scientists at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. It could be a valuable target in many different cancer types, but the initial focus in this trial will be to treat cancers with high unmet-need.This includes thoracic cancers such as mesothelioma, small-cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), for which survival remains very low, and renal cell carcinoma.

Nanomachines engineered to drill into cancer cells killing them in just 60 seconds

An international team, including bio-engineers from Durham University, have used motorised molecules driven by light to drill holes in the membranes of cancer cells – killing them.
The new technique could mean new therapeutic methods to bring medicines directly into the cells or allow doctors to target and kill specific cancer cells.
These new tiny spinning molecules would be driven by light and can spin so quickly that they are able to burrow their way through cell linings once they are activated.

The international team included bio-engineers working out of Durham University partnering with researchers from Rice and North Carolina State universities in the USA. In one test were able to demonstrate nanomachines taking between one and three minutes to break through the outer membrane of prostate cancer cell, killing it instantly.

When you get cancer (which happens all the time) immune system destroys it but those cancers that stay, so to speak, have an ability to fool the immune system so the new drug would eliminate that "fooling system" so that body can destroy it as usual. But it doesn't work for all cancers.

Brain cancer growth can be stopped by removing one protein

The growth of certain aggressive brain tumors can be halted by cutting off their access to a signaling molecule produced by the brain’s nerve cells, according to a new study by researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

When the signaling molecule neuroligin-3 was absent, or when its signal was interrupted with medication, human cancers called high-grade gliomas could not spread in the brains of mice, the researchers found. The study was published online in Nature. Graduate student Humsa Venkatesh is the study’s lead author.

“We thought that when we put glioma cells into a mouse brain that was neuroligin-3 deficient, that might decrease tumor growth to some measurable extent. What we found was really startling to us: For several months, these brain tumors simply didn’t grow,” said Michelle Monje, MD, PhD, assistant professor of neurology and senior author of the study. The findings suggest that interrupting the neuroligin-3 signal could be a helpful strategy for controlling high-grade gliomas in human patients, Monje added.

Experimental Cancer [treatment] Wipes Out Tumors In Mouse Trial

A new study, courtesy of a team led by Stanford Medicine (SM), places its bets on immunotherapy, a rapidly growing field that – unlike conventional chemotherapy – triggers the patient’s own immune system to deal with the cancer itself. Generally speaking, immunotherapy is more precise, whereas chemotherapy targets cells somewhat indiscriminately.

As with plenty of immunotherapy investigations, the focus here was on stimulating the body’s T cells. These are lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that plays a huge role in dealing with infections. They come in two flavors, helpers and killers, with the former assisting in the development of antibodies – the “handcuffs” that pin pathogens down – and the latter actually annihilating damaged or infected cells.

These T cells are excellent at spotting and dealing with abnormal cells, but they have some difficulty when it comes to cancerous cells. As they’re corrupted versions of our own cells, this means that they’re somewhat camouflaged. Even when the T cells do recognize the growing threat, they are often unable to destroy it as it proliferates through the body.

In 90 mice infected with lymphoma – a cancer of the immune system – 87 of them were completely cured. The cancer did return in three of the cured mice, but a second round of treatment put that insurrection to an end.

“Studies that work well in mice do not guarantee success in human patients, though the fact that each of the two individual treatments used in this study are currently in clinical trials – and that they are now recruiting for the first human trials – is encouraging.”

Additionally, “not all tumors will be accessible for injection – many tumors require surgery first,” Eckert added. However, she suggests that “if this treatment is used alongside surgery and this can prevent secondary tumors or metastases from forming, then we could greatly improve life expectancy and/or cure rates for patients.”

Doctors hail world first as woman’s advanced breast cancer is eradicated

To create the treatment, doctors first cut small pieces of tissue from Perkins’s tumours and studied the DNA to find mutations specific to her cancer. They focused on mutations that disrupted four genes which produced an array of abnormal proteins in the tumours.

Next, the doctors extracted immune cells known as tumour infiltrating lymphocytes, or TILs, from the tumour biopsies. These are cells from the patient’s immune system that have invaded the tumour in a bid to kill it, but which failed in the task by being either too weak or too few in number.

After growing billions of these immune cells in the lab, the researchers screened them to find which ones would most effectively find and destroy the woman’s cancer cells by recognising their abnormal proteins.

The doctors treated Perkins by injecting 80 billion of the carefully-selected immune cells into her body. The therapy was given alongside pembrolizumab, a standard drug that can help the immune system to attack cancers. Tests after 42 weeks showed Perkins was completely cancer free. She has remained so ever since.

Simon Vincent, director of research at Breast Cancer Now, added: “This is a remarkable and extremely promising result, but we need to see this effect repeated in other patients before giving hope of a new immunotherapy for incurable metastatic breast cancer.

There is another treatment I heard of where they take polio virus is injected in to the infected cells and the virus attacks the cancer cells.

One lady had a complete recovery, (She was given a huge dosage) while someone else had a good possible outcome but was supposed paralyzed in the procedure (in alot of ways the way polio works, but they say it was a procedural error and not to do with the virus) He was given 1/2 of what the firt lady was given. then they gave another lady 1/3 of what the paralyzed guy got and she recovered for a while then it came back stronger.. polio cancer strong.

The idea is still being tested for people with in op cancer as a possible solution. maybe they will find a solution with some other deadly super virus..

Could you imagine being the first to try such a solution.. what's better brain cancer or being intentionally infected with some mega virus that is only supposed to eat the cancer..

IDK I think I'd rather just die than be like patent 0 for zombie hybrids.
