Yup not every priest was a douche bag but there were plenty who were . What's you point? Plenty of Germans who worked for hitler were not total monsters it does not excuse the group or it's leadership. As for Catholic being oppressed in Nazi Germany . Only priests and publications who were critical of Hitler . But it's hardly non catholic to jail or kill priests who did not agree with a leader . Catholic rulers did it for centuries hell even popes themselves. And the vast majority of Catholics in Germany supported Hitler and suffered no ill treatment at all. As for Italy it was because the culture of Italy never had a massive anti Jewish sediments of else were contrast this with all the other catholic nations of Europe who had the worst track record of protecting Jews.

You, and the Pope, believe that there is an Almighty Being who is the font of all morality. Why would he allow his earthly representative be tortured for espousing the very morality that this deity is alleged to have imparted? Clearly, if your justification for your church's silence in the face of evil is actually what drove Pius's decision, then he was a sham who did not believe that his god could protect him. Or Pius didn't actually believe that murdering Jews was wrong. Those really are the two options here in this discussion. As an aside, it is just as clear that you do not believe your god could or would intercede on the behalf of a follower. Is that because he doesn't care, or because he lacks the power?
So CD is saying his pope was a coward . That while other people (like the godless communists) were willing to be killed or imprisoned opposing the Nazi's. A man from religion that venerates martyrdom and who death may have brought about mass opposition . And he was an even bigger fraud after his silence after the war .

Isn't it true that Catholic Ireland was something of an Axis Power, sort of similar to Spain?
Quote:What would have happened to Pius XII surrounded by fascist Italy (and Nazis by 1943) if he actually condemned Adolf Hitler and the Nazis? He might have regained the integrity he lost when he cozied up to Hitler in the first place. I love how all of a sudden your morality becomes less "objective" and far more pragmatic! Thou the IRA were very sympathetic to Axis . And Irishmen fought on both sides . And both the Axis And Allies planned an invasion of Ireland . And Ireland had many sympathizers in Germany as it held significance to both the Christian and minority pagan elements .

Did it really? I would have thought the Nazis would have viewed the Irish as untermencshen, since they were a relatively backward country. I think though a lot of the reason for Nazis support among Ireland was just hatred for Britain, which until recently had been an oppressive colonial power there. Kind of odd, but I can sort of see why the Nazis might sympathize with the Island. The Irish founding fathers of the backward, Catholic/nationalistic democracy had sort of a reverence for Irish folklore, Irish mythology and the almost extinct language Gaelic. Similary the Nazis loved the ancient myths of the past. Kind of figures really Quote:Similary the Nazis loved the ancient myths of the past. Kind of figures really So do you, asshole. |
