Being a cafeteria Catholic means picking and choosing which Catholic doctrines to adhere to rather than believing in all of it. I don't see how I fall into this category, unless you can point out which particular doctrine(s) I reject?
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I hate this dodge. Humans of all religions act like they are "following"their label correctly while others of the same label are not. There is no "doctrine" in any religion, there are merely people who point to the parts of their writings they like and point to their own interpretations.

Funny how you figured out not to rape or own humans without the interpretations of 500 years ago. Funny how you figured out how to be kind without the Koran or Buddha or the Vedas. Our species western modern values of pluralism are not rooted in any of antiquity's mythology.

You use your religion to say, "I am a good person", well so what, people of all the world's religions do this. They point to their motifs of kindness and charity while ignoring that others of the same label use it for justifications for power and authoritarianism and xenophobia.

Pretty inefficient for an all powerful god to allow all those different religions each with sub sects and tons of versions of the same writings. It doesn't seem to me there is an all powerful god of any label doing anything for humans. It seems to me humans make them up and then hand those superstitions down to the next generation.

Catholicism is different from Protestantism in that our teachings on faith and morals are laid out in official documents such as the Catechism. It takes the subjectivity out of it. You either believe in something the catechism states as official Church teaching, or you don't. If you believe in some parts of it but not other parts, then you are a cafeteria Catholic by definition.
