Sequels that exceed the original
#11
RE: Sequels that exceed the original
To be honest I would interested to see a sequel/ remake of movie WarGames (1983). To see it done with modern computers and modern setting (I mean is that the only 80's techno/ SF movie that is not planned to be re-made or sequeled?). But let's face it problem is they wouldn't be able to just make a movie like that today, it has to be only the first one in upcoming 20 sequels.

EDIT: oh wait, I just checked, there was a sequel in 2006 and apparently many plan to reboot it, like Leonardo Di Craprio.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Also, most of the Harry Potter movies. The first was charming, the second was repitious. Im not a fan of the third but most are. The 4th has rightfully mised reviews. But 5, 6 and 8 are all excellent, surpasding the first movie by leaps and bounds.

Remember that the books were aimed at succeeding ages of children. The original intent was to read Book One at eleven and Book Seven at 18. So the intensity of the books escalates, making for better material for the script writers.

Oh yeah, also the LotR series, both 2 and 3 are better. The original Superman movies, 2 is the best one. The Dark Knight is the only decent Christopher Nolan Batman, way surpassing 1 and 3. Hmm. I wonder if actual spinoffs or prequels ever surpass parent material. All in the Family style.

Yep, as someone who's read the books so much that my coppies are nearly worn out, I am aware.

Truthfully, the first book, simple as it is in comparison to the final few, is equally good as any other to me. After all it was the simple charm and wonder, the more complicated than it seemed but still straightforward mystery, and the wonderful characters in book 1 that hooked millions of readers. The movie captures a great deal of that, but still, due to acting skills improving, better budgets, and better directors, the films have an arc of best to worst that the books do not have, imo.

Ohoh, and Indiana Jones! Personally 3 is my favorite, The Last Crusade. But really all 3 of the originals are great, so this one I'm not as atrongly for.

My husband says, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, far surpasses all other vacations.

Oh crap, AND Back to the Future 3. Come on, the Wild west ones the best one, right?
Also Adams Family Values. That movie is hilarious!

Consider yourself tomatoed.

Agreed about Shrek 2, definitely outdid the first (didn't care for parts 3 or 4, though.)

And while I wasn't a fan of any of the Harry Potter movies in general, yes, I'd say a good few of the others were better than the first (though to me, that isn't saying much.)

Addams Family Values! How could I have forgotten about that one! I'd actually seen that one before the original, but nevertheless, it's still vastly more creative and humorous than the first.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

There is no better way to convey the least amount of information in the greatest amount of words than to try explaining your religious views.
