An even better book, though I read it some time ago--in high school, I think. I seem to recall some of it being written as newspaper accounts or police reports, but I can't be certain. I remember finding it pretty riveting though.

Newspaper accounts, police reports, transcripts of Senate Subcommittee hearings, excerpts from other fictional non-fiction books about the events of prom night, it really sets up a sense of dread for what's going to happen. We know something really fucking bad is going to happen, but we don't know what until the blood starts to fall from the bucket. Or at least they wouldn't if the movie wasn't such a huge hit that everyone and their mums knew the general outline of the story 44 years after the release.
