I know that transgenders can be great people, and gender dysophia isn't a choice.
On the other hand I wonder if they are really right, if their brains really don't resemble their assigned genders, if transitioning is really the solution.
If I were against it, I wouldn't force my opinion on anybody. I might try to convince them otherwise, but nothing more.
So should I be pro or against it?
I don't see what is to be confused about, it is their life ultimately not yours.
The ethical doctors WONT do the surgery if they don't think the person will adapt well to it. I'd only advise the person who is considering it to get multiple opinions and insure that it is right for them.
Sure it is a huge decision on the individuals part to do it, but it is still their choice, not yours.
Some transgender dont go the full route and that is ok too. But for those who want to why would you live your life being unhappy, you only get one life.
Even with gays. I just saw a story this week on CBS This Morning, about an NFL player who lived a lie his entire life until he retired. It was because of the discrimination of others that he hid, and he was miserable to the point of being suicidal. This was a player who did 6 years in the NFL even appearing in a SUPERBOWL with the Patriots. Even with all that success he wanted to kill himself.
Humans do far better in life and are more stable when they can be honest with themselves than when others fear them and expect them to hide what they are.
Our brains as individuals are just that, even outside sexuality or sexual identity. I have male plumbing, but I don't have a deep voice and am very sensitive compared to the social expectation that "men" always have to be macho, and use brawn and suck it up and never cry. Point is, one size does not fit all. What matters to me, isn't a script, but the stability and mental health of others. If they are happy, the more people that are, the more stable that society is.
