I manage not to feel bad for a great many things -with- emotions, so?

I don;t see a problem with people aligning their diet with their convictions. I think more people should do so.

RE: About vegans
I know vegans, and I know there are vegetarians and vegans on these forums.
They never bring it up unless someone else brings it up first.

I do know one guy who can be a bit pretentious about it. But he's like that about everything!

I honestly see far more meateaters preemptively defending (this is the second thread in as many weeks), than vegans going on about it.

(p.s. despite trying, I am not yet vegetarian myself. But we've cut it way, way down. Probably eat meat twice a month now, average).

Plants may have feelings and memories, there is actually some evidence they do have something, more than say, a rock. But as far as we know, it is in no way comparable to the suffering of an animal. We have to go with what we know to the best of our ability. If you aren't bothered by killing them, or aren't bothered enough to stop eating them, I get it, I really do. But why crap all over those who are? They aren't hurting you.

I tried to make an all-vegan meal once, but there just wasn't enough meat on them.

I actually find people who have a problem with vegetarians and vegans to be much more outspoken and obnoxious than vegetarians and vegans. Every time someone brings it up in a forum like this, someone inevitably says "PETA means People for Eating Tasty Animals".
I have had vegetarian parts of my life, and people actually yelled at me about it.

Somehow it's threatening.

Don't take the PETA thing wrong, they are a rather dubious organization.

Neither do republicans, but we're supposed to treat them humanely.

Why? Dunno

And humane by their standards or ours?

I think for some people the notion of others forgoing meat for moral reasons threatens their own sense of morality. It makes them feel insecure about their own character and they deal with that insecurity by, surprise surprise, being jerks and making snarky comments.

I don't think that was her point.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

RE: About vegans
In my experience the subject is normally brought up by meat-eaters who want to try and convince themselves that they are doing the right thing. Just look at the OP for example arguing that plants could possibly also have emotions and feelings therefore it's no better than eating an animal who is clearly able to suffer.

I have found the same thing with people trying to convince me that organic food is a con and that I am stupid for not following the exact same diet that they do. I never try to convince anyone else to eat organic food but if people find out about it then some can become really defensive about it.

Oh, yes. I completely agree.
