If it's pure egoism, then it would have much more to recommend it, and less to sicken the observer, then the combination of nauseating narcissism and abject servility that is stated objective of Christianity.

I think we'd be splitting hairs on this, Chuck.

Based on what? Just a thought. There are way too many celestial bodies to think that every. single. one. of them is uninhabited.

Nobody said that, the problem was with your statement that they had most likely visited us - Why do you think that?

Just an opinion. We don't know everything about our past nor how old this planet is. Therefore it is likely that aliens have visited us.

We don't know everything....therefore it is likely....???????? Confused Fall what sort of Ufology inspired logical fallacy is this?

Btw, FYI we know with robust certainty to within 1% that our planet is 4.55 billion years old.

That's equally as unjustified as saying: "We don't know everything about our past nor how old the planet is, therefore it is likely that the atlanteans existed", you can't say anything about the likelihood of one thing being true based on our ignorance of another thing.

[*]Is there intelligent life outside Earth? Yes.
[*]Have we been visited by beings from other planets? No at least in recorded history.
[*]Would aliens look like us or carry basic similarities? No
[*]Is the money wasted on looking for life outside of Earth? No
[*]Could or would aliens have a similar society to our own? I don't know
[*]Could or would aliens believe in a 'God' figure or have a religious society? I don't know

I heard an interview with an archaeologist who said he hears the arguments like that for Atlanteans and says "where is their garbage then?" That we just don't see anything in the archaeological record that can't be identified with one particular known historical group. If the aliens were here, either it was way before humans were around, or they were the neatest bastards to walk the face of the earth.

  1. Is there intelligent life outside Earth?
Somebody must have already said it, but is there intelligent life here on earth? Anyway, answer is: Considering the size of the universe, a highly probable yes.
  2. Have we been visited by beings from other planets?
Possibly, but highly unlikely considering the young age of our planet and the massiveness of the universe, not to mention the whole annoying speed of light issue which so far we haven't proven a way around yet.
  3. Would aliens look like us or carry basic similarities?
Maybe yes, maybe no. There is a possibility they may have some similar features such as 4 limbs, but equally could have any number of limbs, or maybe no limbs at all.
  4. Is the money wasted on looking for life outside of Earth?
No. The morale boost to humanity to find we are not alone in the universe would be massive... well, except for the Xtians and others who would have to find some justification for this in their religious texts before they could be happy about it.
  5. Could or would aliens have a similar society to our own?
Possibly, or it could be completely different. No data.
  6. Could or would aliens believe in a 'God' figure or have a religious society?
If they are as fucked up as we are, then probably yes. Still, they could also do ancestor worship or living god king type worship. Or maybe we would find that they can't even comprehend the idea of supernatural entities.
A finite number of monkeys with a finite number of typewriters and a finite amount of time could eventually reproduce 4chan.
