How to know if you live in a Patriarchy or Matriarchy

How to know if you live in a Patriarchy or Matriarchy
Sooooooo

I am currently learning some world history, geography etc and I had this thought.
It's about gender ratios in the population across the world.
Note: matriarchy means societal structure where women are considered the head, I'm using the term loosely to say "women oriented or women friendly")

So what I thought was countries that are "women oriented" or countries that stress safety of women will naturally have a highest population of women than men. It made sense, you know? Countries that historically stress the safety of women will have higher women population.

I did some Google searches and what I got was not surprising at all. The countries with least women (or gender ratios that favor men more than women) were:

Quote:
1 United Arab Emirates 26.7
2 Qatar 27.4
3 Oman 33.7
4 Bahrain 38.0
5 Saudi Arabia 43.5
6 Kuwait 43.8
7 Bhutan 46.3
8 India 48.2
9 Malaysia 48.4
10 Afghanistan 48.4

As you can see cultures that focuses more on patriarchal principles had the least women population.
The world population itself is slightly tilted in favor of men but don't be quick to jump to any serious conclusions, the disparity could be caused by many things but it is fair to say in stable developed /developing countries the gender ratios might indicate some root historical culture of it.

Even looking at the whole of a country deriving the cultural historical implications from a simple gender ratio might be too much of a generalization in the whole of it, soooo try to see if you can find the gender ratio of your state or if possible your district, and compare it with the other state/district of your country, it *might* have some implications regarding the historical cultural trends. See if you can post the results as well.

There it is. Back to having love time with geography. (fun facts regarding world geography are appreciated)

Sorry for my ignorance, but what do the numbers next to the country names represent?

As far as EABUC#2 is concerned, I'm living in a Catriarchy.

Glad to clear that up for everyone.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Felinocracy sounds better. You can even pronounce the first two syllables as "felon", which fits cats quite well. Big Grin

Is there even one matriarchal society in this world...?

Maybe some primitive ones. But the guys have the power in the modern world and I'm certain the vast majority of primitive societies are also patriarchal.

The skewed gender ratio is obvious if you know India vastly prefer to give birth and take care of boys over girls, their rationale is that boys will grow up to carry on the family name and take care of old age parents while the girls will grow up and after marriage integrate to another family, take on their family name and lead a separate life. This is a trend only in North Indian states btw, where the family name is given huge importance. So that's probably why the gender ratio is slightly skewed but other than that if you read the ancient epics and such women are described as goddess lol In the south Indian states though it's a whole different matter. The ruling party is the communist party. The south is pretty much the cool people lol because after the partition of india into states (on linguistic basis) there were a lot of elections taking place and in my state the first election result had the communist party take control beating the very dominant congress party. So things are a lot different down here but up there it's a whole Hindu culture thing, btw the most vegetarians in the world is in india, it's so large that KFC had to open a separate vegetarian menu 🤣. The north actually look down on the south because we are not a hindu majority or a religiously divided people, the perfect example is when eating beef was banned, some people were killed over the issue so that south held a beef fest as a sign of protest and broadcasted it on TV. Lol
To summarize I don't think the skewed gender ratio is due to anti women mentality but because of a lot of other cultural issues. People will say "India" but the states are sooooooo different from one another that each state might as well be separate countries, they wear different clothes, speak different languages, have different culture, different dance forms (kathakali, bhangra, kuchipodi etc), different art forms, everything is different, that's why I said in the OP it's better to look at the state's gender ratio to get an idea because countries usually have such diverse cultures within it in different states.

Not where I live. If I was a woman, I have the power to wake up tomorrow and point at any random person and claim he has harassed me then that person will immediately be jailed, the burden of proof is on the guy to prove he didn't do anything, that's just one example of law unfairly giving way too much power over. A social based example would be, like for example if a family of various father, 3 kids and mother is out somewhere and suddenly rain starts pouring the socially approved thing to do is first make the the mom has a umbrella then the daughters, then the sons and lastly the father, it's a rare sight to see a lady drenched with a guy nearby with a umbrella but it's the norm to see the reverse. A commissioner or some other top official got a suspended transfer for "accidently" touching a women with his elbow, cops(men) have no authority to so much as touch women, in fact it's a common tactic to have a woman on the back seat of the bike so that cops don't pull you over for no helmet or other required papers. 🤣
