Favourite "religious" song?
#21
RE: Favourite "religious" song?
I actually enjoy many of the Christmas Carols. Some of my favorites include "O Come All Ye Faithful", "Silent Night", "Do You Hear What I Hear" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!". I find the music to be stirring and emotional. I simply ignore the religious message.
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

My girlfriend & I went & saw Mannheim Steamroller in concert last weekend. Normally not my cup of tea, but they are very, very good musicians. She grew up listening to them & I had never heard of them before two weeks ago.

If you enjoy Christmas music you should check them out.

Thanks for the video!

Yes, Mannheim Steamroller is a terrific group. Another is Trans Siberian Orchestra. If you liked Mannheim Steamroller you'd probably enjoy TSO also. They tour the country constantly. There's a good chance they'll turn up in your area at some point. My wife and I went to see them last year. Wonderful show! Check out their website for concert dates: http://www.trans-siberian.com/

Yes, my girlfriend was talking about us going to see them in December as well. She gets greatly reduced ticket prices via the college she attends.

I've always preferred Leonard Cohen's original version. This version looks like it was shot on the set for the Muppet Show.

Of course, I'd prefer to have used the scene from Watchmen where this is used, but this is not possible for obvious reasons.

And, in addition, there is another Contemporary Classical piece to put on the list. John Adams' Christian Zeal and Activity. Who'd have thought that the soundtrack for a film so aggressively expressionistic as Shutter Island would have included so soothing a piece as this on its soundtrack?

Love this song.
