Stage one......get rid of the dogma that your body-brain is you.
Stage two......start working on your consciousness so it will come natural that there is a gold mine of consciousness within.
Stage three....now the realization that you are behind destruction come natural as the effort goes on.
Stage four......now you are out the mental sewer.
Stage five......now you are the real you......I AM........I AM IMMORTAL......... Bird

Guess what yog?  Lightbulb

Getting out the sewer has very little to do with achieving power.  Bird
It is all about peace of mind and a tremendous feeling of well-being.

No real progress so at the end of your life you will take with you all the intellectual knowledge but as far as reducing the distance that separate you from the goal of life nil.
Absolutely nil.

My studies have benefited me in countless ways. What the fuck do you know about it? Maybe you should crack a philosophy book once in while. Maybe you'd figure out that you're not saying anything that Rene Descartes didn't say nearly 400 years ago. Only his rendition was articulate and made some kind of fucking sense.

Another thing, before publishing Meditations, Descartes sent a copy of his work around so that his peers could respond to it. He published their responses (as well as his own rebuttals) with the finished product. In all seriousness, if you are going to accept Cartesian metaphysics, fine. But why don't you also accept his convention of listening to others and responding to their criticisms?

It seems that people take the time to read what you post and produce counterarguments to further the discussion. But you seldom return the favor.

IDK, maybe that's part of your charm, Rik. (Don't ever change.)

In Kingdom Hearts, there are creatures known as "Nobodies".
Human beings who have no hearts, or soul. Nobodies are believed to be just certain "accidents" and are nothing but empty husks with no emotion.
If a Nobody gets killed, their body returns to the person they were.

What's that have to do with atheism? Well everything.
Nobodies claim themselves "are not supposed to exist, yet we still do." Nobodies also lack a "heart", or a "soul" as they were treated as in the KH series.

It is kinda similar towards how some atheists believed that life was created by chance and/or there is no such thing as souls or the afterlife.

In KH Dream Drop Distance for 3ds, it is explained that Nobodies DO have hearts. Nobodies have simply evolved and learn to live just like the people who have hearts.
In other words, the hearts grew inside the Nobodies and the Nobodies become their own people.

It is very similar towards atheism, and the scientific theory of evolution. The idea of growing, evolving, into something more than they were.
And the part with how a Nobody returns to their original human form after they die is very similar towards the idea of "reincarnation" where if we die, we would be re-born again.

I hope you guys like my comparision. It is a lot less negative compared to my last post. Leave a comment on what you think. And you all have a great day!

LOL! If you are taking fiction to see how atheist society functions then look at Star Trek. It's more reliable then some fantasy games for kids. Like look at ST Voyager and captain Janeway and what kind of person atheism, rationalism and science made her. She didn't use magic to solve problems. She wasn't the chosen one. She wasn't a princess. She wasn't a feminine stereotype. Her powers were logic, science and rationalism. In many ways she is a real human being with doubts, fears and self questioning.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

That is bizarre VL.  Smile

You present a thought from Plutarch which make sense unfortunately you do not follow his advise. Shake Fist
You fill your mind with a myriads of thoughts from a myriad of philosopher but at the end you fail to raise your consciousness.
That is what Plutarch is talking about when he say .............A mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.........
Why he tell us to kindle a fire?  Rolleyes
What does that means?
He simply mean to raise the consciousness.
Nothing less nothing more.
In those simple words he explain that there is no point in filling the mind with knowledge, instead we should activate the mind.
And how you do that?  Bird
Simple VL.
That is an internal effort which require self awareness by using a method that just fulfill that scope such as yoga.

So to summarize you fail and fail badly.  Banging Head On Desk
You just act like the guy that try to get the expertise to learn how to drive a vehicle only doing the theory and forget about the practice.
Until you will engage in practice the chances to reach any progress is zero.  Indubitably

There is no question that VL has a lot of intellectual knowledge.
He is a good guy too.  Bird
Unfortunately for him this type of knowledge mean next to nothing as far as to shorten the distance that separate him from the goal of life.
He just doesn't get it.  Shake Fist

If you are basing your life on an old book of mythology, we'd say you are the one not getting it.

Nope it only separates him from your silly pointless belief in what life's goal is which fails philosophically . I'm sure his goals are vastly more interesting because he is so knowledgeable .

Little Rik, correct me if I am wrong, but I thought you were a Christian?

If you are, I find it funny you are arguing with a Muslim. To the outsider, to me it is like going to a si fi convention and watching a Star Wars fan argue with a Star Trek fan.
