Wal Mart increases starting wage

Quote:Walmart's workers will soon reap the benefits of the recent tax law changes, as the world's largest private employer raises its starting wage, creates new benefits and distributes bonuses to eligible workers.

The big-box retailer announced Thursday it will increase its starting wage rate for hourly employees in the U.S. to $11, and expand maternity and parental leave benefits. Currently, Walmart's starting wage is $9 until workers complete a training program. Then, they receive $10.

Walmart will also pay a one-time cash bonus to eligible employees of as much as $1,000. The payouts, which should total roughly $400 million, will result in a one-time charge that the company will take in its fiscal fourth quarter.

It needs to be noted that Walmart only extends leave benefits to full-time employees. It's no coincidence that they have an active policy of keeping non-management employees only working between 20 and 30 hours per week ... so that they need not provide benefits.

This is an empty PR move.

Because it is not a living wage, asshole.

That depends on where you live - I've lived on less. Regardless, it's $1,500 closer, right?

How, and for how long? When you were still living with your parents?

1000 or so dollars a year is absurd.

In Australia, just being on Centrelink (social security org in Australia) will net you more than that.

I'd assume he's talking about the hourly rate at Walmart which works out to 20,000 a year or so.

We're in the days were two sub-living wage jobs have to substitute for one living wage job.

If it gets any better its going to be up to you lot. I'm 67 tomorrow and Olympian about all this.

Wal-Mart is going to close 63 Sam's Club stores and terminate thousands of people. I wonder if any of those people will get the $1,000 and a pay raise before they are tossed to the curb?

Yeah, approximately 11,025 Employees lost their Jobs - Most of these employees didn't even get a single day's Notice! But people are still high on Trump. It's because, let's face it, Trumpists don't really care about economy, but for racism.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Magicians always use distraction to pull their tricks.  The great unwashed always fall for their bullshit.

These corporate criminals have learned the same technique!
