RE: Weights and weight loss
My second of six classes is tomorrow. I am now sitting at 256 pounds.

Holy crap! If you're that heavy, you definitely don't need to be adding weight. Your knees and ankles are going to probably limit how much you can walk as it is. At least wait a while to see how they're going to hold up.

I know you meant well but ... um... this sorta hurt a little bit.

Ouch; I'm sorry about that! It's just that I've walked long distances (~8 miles/day over a period of several months) to lose > 50lbs. It's very effective if you stick with it. I too started out at 250 lbs but I'm a guy with bigger bones. Still, there were touch and go times where I felt the need to heavily pad my shoes and wear knee braces. My experience leads me to think weights would be a very bad idea in your case.

If you stay with a routine, knock off 20 lbs and the knees and ankles are holding up, that would be the time to reconsider adding weights IMO.

Good luck!

Hope your classes go well. My experiences with adding weights was that for me they did not add that much to my fitness or calorie burning. Although at the time I had been on meds that cause weight gain as well as BP meds.

Thank you for the apology. I'm going to take your suggestion and hold off on for the weights for a while.
