Quote:Why is the Bible so poorly written?

Quote:Millions of evangelicals and other Christian fundamentalists believe that the Bible was dictated by God to men who acted essentially as human transcriptionists. If that were the case, one would have to conclude that God is a terrible writer. Many passages in the Bible would get kicked back by any competent editor or writing professor, kicked back with a lot of red ink—often more red than black.

Well you know, it's really hard to accurately transcribe something that came from copies of copies of copies of copies of manuscripts that no one has ever actually seen. Also... good ol' King James had the bible say exactly what he wanted it to say.
Gee. I didn't know King James positioned himself higher than The Almighty.

Kind of surprised that "god" would allow that.

Perhaps "god" is a wimp?

Or...

He's just chosen to not ever show up to any argument against him. Better to just run and hide. Sissies like it that way.

Any safaris? I started doing Baja to Washington State very young with my brothers and friends. Did 4mos on Bali and 7 in OZ by the time I was 19. I have since been all over the world. I also lived 4yrs on the North Shore of Maui surfing in my backyard which is beyond dreams and yes, God was required!

Costa Rica 3 times, twice before it became a zoo.
Kauai (the only Hawaiian island I've surfed) probably about 12 times (my brother-in-law's parents used to live there, so I always had a place to stay).
Mexico too many times to remember.
El Salvador once ( a country full of Rincons).
Mentawai once.
Maldives once.
Northern California a bunch of times.
Puerto Rico once.

That's about it.
Awesome! I love Kauai! So beautiful! I once stayed at the Princeville overlooking Hanalei Bay!

My friends used to send me pictures from Pavones and make me jealous being a goofy foot!
Mex too many times I actually don't remember and some nights I wish I could!

In 79'' I met a Brazilian in Indo. We were surfing Ulu's when I said, "This is the best left in the world!" He said no, "Puerto Escondido". I never went but no one heard of the Mexican Pipeline back then.
El Salvador and it's Rincons, I heard the same about Nicaragua.
Mentawai/Maldives--that's a dream!

I wonder what it's like at Rincon in PR since the hurricanes? People always told me that if I ever went, I would not want to come back! As far as the Caribbean go's I loved Barbados!
My girlfriend thinks I'm a stalker. Well...she's not my girlfriend "yet".

I discovered a new vitamin that fights cancer. I call it ...B9

I also invented a diet pill. It works great but had to quit taking it because of the side effects. Turns out my penis is larger and my hair grew back. And whoa! If you think my hair is nice!

When does size truly matter? When it's TOO big!

I'm currently working on a new pill I call "Destenze". However...now my shoes don't fit.

I really don't see how this can make any sense, because these same people (most probably including yourself) believe that Moses wrote first five books of the Bible (Pentateuch) and yet they are one contradiction after another. Meaning they believe that only one guy wrote first five books and yet it's filled with misinformation.
Starting at the very beginning like in Genesis 1.11 he claims plants were created before humans, but in Genesis 2.5 after; then in Genesis 2.7, & 19 humans were created before animals and then in Genesis 1.25-27 after the animals; then in Genesis 1.27 he claims Eve was created at same time as Adam but in Genesis 2.20-22 she was created after Adam and the animals and so on.

But let's concentrate on Moses own bio. If he wrote it, as you probably believe, he also didn't know stuff about himself since, for instance, in Exodus 3.1; 4.18 he claims that Jethro is his father in law but in Numbers 10.29 he claims it's Hobab and in Exodus 2.18 his father in law is Reuel.
Or where did he get water from a rock? In Exodus 17.1 he claims it was in Wilderness of Sin in Rephidim, but in Numbers 20.1 it was in the desert of Zin in Kadesh.
Or how did he get water out of the rock? In Exodus 17.6 he says it was by smiting it, but in Numbers 20.8 it was by talking to it.
Or who wrote the (second set of) ten commandments? In Exodus 34.27 he claims it was he himslef while in Exodus 34.1 it was God.
And he even doesn't remember who made the ark of covenant because in Deuteronomy 10.1-3 he claims he himself made it, but in Exodus 37.1 he says it was Betaleel.

And so on.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

It conflicts with the idea of an "all powerful" God. Why would you take an inefficient path if you didn't have to?

Who wants to honk their own horn when they have an army of shills happy to do it for them?

I suppose out of 2 billion Christians there are some who see it this way, but that isn't the typical view on inspiration.

So this is just your way of giving credit to God for the creative works of people you endorse .. when you like the outcome, of course. Otherwise you'd deem it the work of the devil if you thought it promoted unbiblical ways. Of course if it wasn't useful polemically you wouldn't bother invoking supernatural agency at all. Do you have any idea how lame this looks to people outside the game you're playing?

Meh, if people want to claim that god wrote or "inspired" magic book, then it's on them to explain why their god doesn't know the first thing about it's own creation.  Internal contradictions are just bad editing, breathless and fact free descriptions of our origins and a wholly manufactured history of his chosen master race...are something else entirely.

It's only through the insistence of the faithful that their own god is made culpable for that nonsense.

Pow! If God inspired the book the God should make sure there are no errors.

And fuck apologetics.
