Wow. You're clearly off the beat a lot in that recording. To be perfectly honest, it reminds me a bit of that time I went to Nashville and recorded a version of "Folsom Prison Blues."
I went with Dad on a plane; he was going to a business conference, I went to take in the sights. I stayed at the hotel that has the Country Music Hall of Fame. I also found out that there was a Third Man Records located within walking distance from the hotel. Eventually, I went there. I didn't buy anything, but I did discover there was a little voice recording booth. I didn't record anything then, but I did find the time to write out the lyrics and chords to "Folsom Prison Blues" in my little notebook. I had zero time to practice; I picked up a guitar (a black Little Martin), and tried to practice, but the staff admonished me not to do so while someone else was recording. It was a little song with the lyric "My name may be Morgan, but it ain't J.P." Eventually, I managed to do it. It sounded exactly what you'd expect an unrehearsed version of "Folsom Prison Blues" would sound like when recorded by a poorly-positioned mic, that wound up sounding distorted as shit. I have no idea how Neil Young managed to record an entire album on this thing. When we came home, we tried to transfer it to a digital file, but it wound up being even totally unlistenable, so I can't show you the audio. However, here's a photo of the disc itself: ![]() And yes, I did position that pen to cover up my name.
