The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Fan of the markedly less ironic book version, perhaps?

Or are you just jelly of Casper Van Dien? Tongue

I see you haven't read the book. No surprise, nobody who has would accept the "satire" bullshit that the director tried to cover his ass with. He admitted he'd done no more than read the back of a paperback copy before making that train wreck.

The Cossack ambush of the Polish knights in "Tara Bulba". Otherwise a very tedious film.

^This.  'Starship Troopers' is (apart from being a ripping good read), a thinly disguised treatise on the duty one owes to the society in which one lives. The film, on the other hand, is a fairly moronic castigation of the whole idea of 'duty'. You know a film is bad when even Dina Meyer's tits can't save it.

That Casper movie didn't have a ghost of a chance given the complete ignorance of the source material.

No, I was unable to read Heinlein well before I saw Starship Troopers; not a fan of his writing style. My takeaway from the film, was that Ezsterhaus considered the original work to be pro-militaristic/nationalistic, fascist garbage...and all but accuses the the author of being a Nazi. I assume the lefty, liberal pinkos running Hollywood wished to capitalize on the popularity of the novel while repudiating its alleged ideological themes, and thusly retooled it.

The political satirism came across loud and clear to me.

Well, you know...Obvious stuff is rather obvious.
To most folks, that is.

But hey, if you don't like, you don't like. To each is own.
