Hillel the Elder vs. Jesus
#11
RE: Hillel the Elder vs. Jesus
110bc to 30 ad.......with wiggle room for the big bc/ad changeover, chimp, lol.

(truth is, if "jesus" is an amalgam he's an amalgam of shit from 100ad or later, not 100bc-0ad..this is ignoring the fact that jesus is a myth, ofc.)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

For Christians, Hillel is the nickname for Mary Magdalene's boobs. Nothing more.

Known for centuries... Confucius, Pittacus, the Udānavarga, Hillel, 'Jesus'... why, it's almost as if this stuff was basic common sense.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I once saw a great web site.  It ticked off some of the supposedly great ideas of "jesus" and then quoted the Greek philosophers who had thought of them centuries earlier.

You know something.  This jesus guy may just be a fucking phony!

If he was around today, he'd be running a televangelist scam and screwing his followers at a mountain retreat somewhere.

The life of Hillel was from 110 BCE to 10 CE. That would mean he lived to be 120. Not likely. But if he were alive in 10 CE then he was a contemporary with Jesus.

Just barely; he might have been around for when Jesus was in the temple discussing philosophy with the elders (assuming that the event isn't just a fiction), but the ministry is generally assumed to be sometime in the area of 27-36 AD. That is, of course, assuming that the whole thing actually happened in the first place. It's all inconclusive whether or not Jesus really existed as the Bible claimed he did, was just a story made up by someone, or if he was an actual historical figure whose deeds and sayings wound up being changed (willfully or not) by his followers.

I personally prefer Hillel's formulation to Jesus'.
