You don't have people clamouring to follow mosaic law anything like sharia, which is the actual law people live under in many places.
Muslims have differing interpretations of the Sharia concept. It's not one unified thing.

Sharia is still shit. Also thats just until they can replace those laws. The bible says something similar. Why a feminist or an atheist would defend sharia law is beyond me.
The opening post of this was incorrect about sex with prepubescent girls or female genital mutilation being part of sharia, but capital punishment and things like the cutting off of hands are part of it.
Sharia law sucks. There is no good defense for it. Pointing out a tiny part of it that doesn't suck doesn't make it good any more than putting chocolate in a shit sandwich makes it delicious.

The Bible may say something similar, and yet plenty of Christian still nevertheless have varying interpretations of Biblical/Mosaic law. It's the same thing with Muslims and Sharia. For some Muslims, it simply means nothing more than justice.

So what? Millions of people have to live under shitty sharia law, where you can be executed for minor offenses and for being an atheist, by the way. So it does exisit, in reality, not hypothetically like mosaic law, which isn't used anywhere any more.
So whether or not some Muslims ignore that for a more moderate interpretation is irrelevant. They would get their hands chopped off for stealing in Iran the same as everyone else. As long as it gets even a modicum of respect from anyone, the fundamentalist version will always be able to pop up again. Also defending it to me, an atheist, by saying 'oh yeah, the bible does the same!' Makes no sense. Biblical law is shitty too! I would be in literal physical revolt if the government tried to implement it. Just because other people want to try to feed me one shit sandwich doesn't make sharia any less of a shit sandwich.
How can any atheist defend sharia? It's a religious law code!! What the fuck?

That is absurd! You can say the same thing everywhere.
If Usain Bolt rejected Micheal Phelps as his coach: Phelps sprinting capability has nothing to do with the quality of his advice. Isn't it also possible that Phelps could be a great sprinter and give terrible advice?
If a police didn't take advice from a gangster on how to uphold law: The gangsters law breaking nature has nothing to do with the quality of his advice. Isn't it also possible that the gangster could be a law abiding citizen and still give terrible advice?

(February 22, 2018 at 7:44 pm)Starman Wrote: Sharia law, which originated in the early Islamic states in the 8th and 9th centuries, allows wife beating, permits marriage and sexual intercourse between men and pre-pubescent girls, calls for the stoning of gays, condemns Muslims who convert to Christianity to death, and condones female genital mutilation. About the specific details of Sharia,
Linda Sarsour tweeted, “Sharia law is reasonable, and once u read the details, it makes a lot of sense.”
Yes indeed, genital mutilation, whippings, stonings, treating women like cattle - all this "makes a lot of sense."
That's her opinion.
So many criticize "Sharia Law"; and everybody who carried it out got torn to pieces or abandoned it, examples are Saudi Arabia and ISIS.
Some Muslims don't believe in it; and there is evidence from inside the faith for every bit of criticism to the bloody law; it caused nothing but wars and death.
And let me correct "Linda Sarsour": Sharia Law is not reasonable; it's a Sunni attempt to copy-paste the bible's sentences -like stoning-.
Yes; stoning people who have adultry is a biblical sentence.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoning#Biblical
As to "treating women like cattle":
Ephesians 5:22–24
Quote:Wives and Husbands
22 zWives, asubmit to your own husbands, bas to the Lord. 23 For cthe husband is the head of the wife even as dChrist is the head of the church, his body, and is ehimself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
?
Buddy; you're a Christian! your faith is Sharia Law in English; so what are you criticizing; exactly?
The origins of Sharia Law are a copy-pasting of hellish biblical sentences that Eastern Romans & Crusaders used to carry; and still some Europeans carry now. Ever heard about the scary levels of women abuse, and where are they located?
Don't be a deacon. You follow the Church; so please don't bombard other extreme religions; Sharia Law is basically the "Sunni Hadith", following the example of your own holy book.

Perhaps dont jump to such conclusions as me defending sharia law or me having no problem with it being implemented, especially when your mind is set on one particular conception of sharia. And considering that the person being discussed in the OP is a progressive, what youre arguing here is irrelevant. Because her idea of sharia is not what youre thinking, nor is she hoping that what youre thinking of be eventually implemented in the US (in a sense its already implemented in the US per her interpretation). She has different ideas of jihad and sharia and such, not unlike many moderate Muslims, adhering to conceptions that are abstract principles as opposed to promoting barbaric practices which you speak of. Not every Muslim advocating sharia or talking positively about it is thinking of the same sharia you and the fearmongering right on Fox News think of, deliberately or not.
