Monica Lewinsky Still Passing the Buck

That’s the big problem with contemporary feminism: it latches onto multiple , often Contradictory, feminine archetypes from the strong to the helpless, and arrange it in such a way that the sympathetic parts are all true and the less sympathetic parts are all lies that need to die.

And with the ascendancy of the "prejudice+power" paradigm, it ultimately transforms from a worthy cause to something which becomes, at its root, all about passing the buck. I am inherently right, you are inherently wrong, and I didn't even have to do anything but read some articles on the Internet saying so, that's what we've become.

Yeah I feel like some forms of feminism try to have to both ways. On one hand they say women are independent and strong and have no need to be protected, etc etc. On the other hand they act like women are helpless victims all the time. So, which is it?

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Look, she made blow jobs popular.  You have to give her credit for that.

If anything it will serve to men in positions of power to take care of where they sticks there dicks in. I can tell you that things change when power comes to your hand.

Them bitches (they were) at work suddenly turned nice when I got promoted to boss. A few more frisky of them even hit on me. What suddenly made me more beautiful?

Fortunately I have this gaze I give and they will hiss down to their holes. They didn't like me, but now that I am a boss I am suddenly the best thing on earth.

Whichever archetype fits the way the discussion's going at the moment.

Here's a passage from Slacktivist's blog on Left Behind that illustrates this problem perfectly:

Fred \Slacktivist' Clark Wrote:If you ever encounter someone face to face who believes this, who insists that American Christians are “persecuted,” try to enjoy the ride. First remind them that America is, in fact, the wealthiest nation on the planet and that most Christians here enjoy a wonderful standard of living. They will argue, defensively, that this is because America is blessed by God due to its being a godly nation based on “Judeo-Christian” values. Repeat that back to them, though, and they will counter, just as defensively, that America is an ungodly place, a Babylon in which RTCs are a persecuted minority under constant threat from an elite majority [sic] in the schools, the media and the government. Repeat that back to them and they will change gears yet again, becoming even angrier and more defensive. How dare you suggest that America is Babylon? …
You can do this all day.

Those two, incompatible*** portraits of holy/unholy America don’t strike them as a contradiction because they both effectively serve the same purpose: self-congratulation. Both constructs reassure the persecuted hegemons that they are good. Or, at least, that they are better than those people over there.

And, depressingly, this time around, it's a cause that I honestly believe in that's embracing this mindset.

Haven't read the article.

It occurs to me that IF what she means here is that superior-subordinate intimate relationships in general inherently are problematic wrt consensuality - and this has nothing to do with her gender - she might have a point. This incidentally was my primary beef with the affair.

I doubt seriously that's what she means, though.

They are both ass holes as far as I'm concerned - the powerful man who cheats on his wife and has no respect for women, as well as the woman who sleeps with the powerful married man because of who he is and then cries wolf later on.

See, I don't know. I had a boss a long time ago that I came really close to sleeping with. He was technically my superior, but we were both just into each other. I don't think there's a problematic power paradigm in these kinds of relationships. When a person in power uses said power to bed a subordinate under threat of losing their employment or other (housing, etc), then you have a problem. I didn't see that here. It was an unpaid internship and she gave up the goods without a fuss.

Just because the dude you fucked around with is in a position of power doesn't mean he abused that power to get in your pants. Just because you decided to be an absolute moron and fuck around with the single most watched person in the world doesn't mean you get sympathy when it blows up in your face. You don't get to Me Too because you had sexual relations with the president and were investigated when he lied about it. You chose to have an affair with a married man. You got caught. You had to reap what you sowed. You are not a victim. I can't believe she still has the gall to play victim and compare herself to actual victims. She and Bill should be utterly ashamed and just shut the fuck up about it.
