Which technically makes him Jewish, since apparently Jewishness is somehow transmitted through the mother's DNA. Somehow.

I simply cannot imagine those words without thinking of this:

As I understand it,the traditional Jewish position is that if your mother is Jewish, so are you.

As DNA was unknown until recently,I think the reason may have been more prosaic.IE there can always be some doubt about paternity. Far less so with maternity.
