Better yet, audiobooks, written and read by him?

I've actually never read a Star Trek book in my life. Any recommendations?

I remember really enjoying that IQ I linked above and another with the TOS crew, Windows on a Lost World.
I got a few on audiobook format and listened to them. These two I remember having the true Trek feel in them. Others, like Imzadi, Prime directive and Ship of the Line felt a bit more like filler episodes.

Wow, that's surprising for a self-described, "rabid fan."

I consider the bulk of them low-quality. There are some standouts though.

Immortal Coil is a story about Soong-type androids like Data. This book is best for fans who are well-familiar with the original series and ST:TNG. It seamlessly weaves a connection between episodes and characters in both series.

The I, Q one is definitely interesting as well.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Yeah, I mean, I don't read too much fiction in my adult life. I read a bunch of sci fi/fantasy in my teen years though. If I was going to pick up a good dime store novel, I think Trek would be the way to go.
