Gunshot outside my apartment

RE: Gunshot outside my apartment
*rubs temple*

This wasn't about gun control or where things are more dangerous. I had a very scary night and I wanted to just talk it out, I didn't feel comfortable doing it on Facebook and it was the middle of the night so my family wasn't awake.

I'm fully aware gun control needs to be tightened, I know Ft. Hood had a mass shooting in 09 because my mom and godfather were both there and I didn't know if they were safe for hours. It was very traumatic. I don't want this to be about any of that though.

I felt safe in my apartment and I was okay with my husband being gone for two nights at a time every week. Now I'm really shaken up. The only thing that is keeping me from freaking the fuck out is that there was no blood. Whatever fell down the stairs before the person ran down them must not have been a person because there would have been blood. At the time I thought it was a person and the shooter left them there. I was torn between keeping myself safe and wanting to check to see if I could render first aid.

I understand. I imagine you would feel just as unsafe, if you thought you'd heard a fight on the stairs. It's scary to be reminded how little control we have over violence.

I hope you are getting calmer as the day goes on.

That's damn scary. Hope you stay safe.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

I'm feeling better yes, thank you. In the heat of the moment I forgot that my career military, gun toting, father in law lives down the street during the week. If anything serious had happened he would have been over very quickly. Knowing that I can call him helps me feel better about going home tonight.

He works in Austin but their ranch is almost two hours away so he chose an apartment in our complex to be near us during the week but then we moved after getting kicked out for our husky. When his lease is up he said he will try to move into our building at the new place. I will feel much better when that happens.

Given that scenario I really don't think you'd feel all that much different if you were living in an isolated farm house in the sticks.

In all my life living in Portugal's largest and most populous city, I have never heard a gunshot.

That said, on occasion, people do feel vulnerable. My mom lives in a house, in a village, and she likes having a baseball bat near her bed. Still, in some 20 years, she never had any problems there.

Why would you keep your gun in your truck? Is that the responsible gun-owner thing to do?

How think are your outer walls? Would a gun shot pierce through?

That's scary  Sad

But glad your okay

When i lived in Mexico city for a time (2 years )(how i met in person  my second girlfriend) I never saw  a shooting or heard one but  some  muggings by knifepoint happened in my neighbourhood. By far the worst violence i have seen is when my mother was killed but i don't want to go to go into that .

I spent some of my youth in the most rough neighbourhoods of Lisbon and outskirts. Never heard a shot. Most safe was Casal Ventoso (poca surely knows what was it). Thing is the drug dealers there had their own security team, patrolling in scooters and on foot, they wanted to give no excuses for the cops to raid the place more than they were. Bad to the business.

mlm, it could have been a person juggling a suitcase and a gun. Drops the suitcase down the stairs, flinches and pulls the trigger on the gun. One person, no dead body. Stupid gun handling, but no other major crime.

Yeah once we found out there was no blood we were thinking the object that fell down the stairs was the object that was shot which is why they couldn't find the bullet just the casing. I'm hoping it was stupid gun handling and they got scared that's why they ran and tires screeching away. Better than an act of crime.

Well I can hear my upstairs neighbor's phone vibrate at night and I can hear every person that goes up and down the stairs so I think they are thin walls but I don't know if a bullet would go through or not.

My gun is in my truck because I hate carrying it back and forth from the house and truck every day and I felt safe in my house but not the places I go with my truck. I figured I would rather leave it on my truck and always have it than forget it on accident at home and need it at the gas station or summin. You can bet I will be taking it inside tonight.
