Why did humans once believe that the son was a god? Why do humans believe in vampires and psychics? Humans are gullible. Humans would rather believe in a superstition and or comforting lie because that is easier than actually doing the investigation to find out it is bunk. Ever heard of mass hysteria? What about fashion? Simple codependency will cause people to bow the knee to anything... The idea of NDE's being a spiritual experience is a fad. How do you know that what you think and believe isn't just fashionable thinking? I am soooooooo tired of this shit. I’m honestly surprised that he still works as a surgeon in a New York hospital. You’d think his quackery would, at the very least, call his license into question. I mean, the guy testified before Congress about the snake oil he peddles, all but admitting it’s all a sham.
Wait... why were you watching Mehmet in the first place?
The whole tone of Church teaching in regard to woman is, to the last degree, contemptuous and degrading. - Elizabeth Cady Stanton
you think NDEs are fake. Tell me this: when the brain is about to die, how can it conjure up such a lucid image? NDEs are highly lucid, things make sense, they meet family, potentially Jesus, they see bright lights, feel good, and then come back to life. Some people argue the NDE occurs when the brain comes back online. However, when the brain comes back online, people are generally groggy, they have painful unrealistic hallucinations. So, there really is no stage during which the brain is normal or lucid enough to make such an experience. Also, people often claim it felt more real than real life. Dr. Long says oxygen loss cannot cause NDEs because oxygen loss creates weird painful hallucinations. Dr. Sartori says that drugs like ketamine actually minimize overall NDE causes. Therefore, there is no way to explain them, they might be real.
You can say all the things you've just said about intensive drug use. Everything you experience is filtered through the brain-- that means your brain is perfectly capable of generating an entire sensory world for you to experience.

Well, when the brain is about to die, shouldn't we expect it to be malfunctioning and, as a result, conjure up vivid images that have been rooted in the mind due to sociocultural experiences? Fact is every individual who has had an NDE tells you a different story of what they saw than another individual who has had an NDE; they each see stuff based on their own conditioning (both personal and sociocultural). Don't you think that, therefore, human psychology explains this far better than the supernatural?
oh no

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
