For the local news this passes as "investigative journalism."  They don't do much of that out here.... unless a cat is stuck in a tree.

However, the local CBS affiliate just put a reporter on to see if Cadet Bonespurs' National Guard Publicity Stunt will do any good.  He duly noted that Bush and Obama sent the NG to the border and also noted that they have no legal authority to do much of anything except stand there.  They can't arrest anyone and, hate to break it to our resident fascists, they can't murder people at random, either. 

Anyway, the reporter noted that in 2006  and 2010 when Bush and Obama were playing their games the number of border apprehensions did decline.  However, the number of border apprehensions also declined in the years when the NG was not there as can be seen from this chart.



He also noted that Bush and Obama wasted $1.3 billion dollars on their bullshit.  Hope the NG appreciates standing around in 120 degree heat so that the Orange Fucktard can grandstand for the racist shitballs in his base.

California Crops Rot as Trump's Immigration Crackdown Creates Farmworker Shortage

The ongoing battle about U.S. immigration policies is blamed for the shortage. The vast majority of California’s farm workers are foreign born, with many coming from Mexico. However, the PEW Research Center reports more Mexicans are leaving the U.S. than coming here.

To make the jobs more attractive, farmers are offering salaries above minimum wage, along with paid time off and 401(k) plans, but even that’s not proving enough.

Vegetable prices may be going up soon, as a shortage of migrant workers is resulting in lost crops in California.

Of course, anyone who eats should care.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) said she would reject a request from President Trump to dispatch National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.

"If @realDonaldTrump asks me to deploy Oregon Guard troops to the Mexico border, I'll say no," Brown tweeted.

"As Commander of Oregon's Guard, I'm deeply troubled by Trump's plan to militarize our border."

She added: "There's been no outreach by the President or federal officials, and I have no intention of allowing Oregon's guard troops to be used to distract from his troubles in Washington."
