I found the idea of a depressed soft fruit amusing so adopted it as my own.

The b at the end was a typo I'm too lazy to remove.

Clap yay! You were the other one I was hoping would respond. Now if only Pad would...

RE: Usernames
Well, the rationale behind my name is simple.

The "Rye" part came first. For a long time, J.D. Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye was my favorite novel, and whenever I would join a forum, I would usually add "intherye" to the end of the name. Admittedly, though, The Brothers Karamazov may have eclipsed this position in recent years (particularly in the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation, but that's another story.)

The "Rev." part comes from the fact that I was ordained into the Universal Life Church (ordination date 3/10/07). And, of course, I like the irony of writing anti-religious things while calling myself "Reverend."

unfortunately no, although hopefully no more derailments.

My entire extended family,on both sides,is ethically Irish. My middle name is "Patrick".

I chose "Padraic" here as it sounded Gaelic , although I don't know if that's the case.

"Patrick" was also my father's middle name,my grandfather's first name and my mother's maiden name*

*For any hockey fans: "Patrick" is a famous hockey name:Hall of fame inductee Frank Patrick was my grandfather, and hall of fame inductee Murray 'Muzz' Patrick was my cousin. I have a New York Rangers puck Muzz gave me sitting here on my desk. I've never seen a hockey game.

RE: Usernames
I've been EvidenceVsFaith for like two years. The rationale behind the name was that it's better to base our beliefs on evidence, than to just "have faith".

The rationale behind my new name is that it's better to doubt things - and doubt those doubts, and so on - than to "have faith" and therefore just trust blindly.

Likewise, just because I disagree with someone doesn't mean I "distrust" them in the sense of being disloyal.

And just because I agree with someone doesn't mean I trust them either. I would much rather agree because I am convinced by their reasoning than "have faith" in them.
