Why, thank you, Asshole! That's the best compliment you ever gave a Christian! Things are looking up around here!

It's not a compliment, Adolf. Merely an understanding that an oyster can't make a pearl without an irritant. If you don't mind being an irritant I don't mind calling you one.

I do disagree with Rev. I can't remember the last time I heard something original from any believer in anything. It is like they use stock answers and we've heard them all before. Then they wonder why their explanations don't work as they did in the 8th century!
Just so we’re clear, when I was talking about some who try to be fair, I was talking about CL specifically.
It seems that for her, the discussions are an end to themselves and not just a vehicle to try and push an agenda or convert us with arguments they may or may not know we’ve already heard (and many of us have debunked) a thousand times. And on a discussion forum, that should kind of be the whole point.

Much harder to be an atheist on a theist forum than vice versa because you are dealing with an entire belief system and so every thread will be referenced from that perspective. Atheism by contrast is not a belief system so other than non belief in God there is nothing that unifies atheists so discussions can be more open ended. I once tried to join Christian Forums but was banned immediately simply for saying that no idea was sacred and all should be exposed to critical rigour. I have zero interest in being a member of any forum which prohibits free and open discussion. Philosophy or non atheist rational forums in
my experience tend to be the best ones. And I say non atheist because having the word atheist in the forum title can be limiting even if rational forums generally have a significant number of atheists in them

I agree with you and I can even say that I agree one hundred percent ... Christian forums are real strange ... people there are usually too overconfident...and I'm telling this .. I... a Christian lol
i remember that my good friend also had banned because he only asked why he got the warning... it was really stupid...
..so this is why i like to be here, people here aren't bad for me .. because I'm a theist...of course sometimes someone can say something unpleasant hehe..but generally is ok here

Being an ex-Christian fundamentalist (long, long ago in a life that now seems far, far away) I am ambivalent leaning toward avoiding them most of the time. There is never a new argument, never a fresh idea; mostly just rehashed stuff from McDowell, who is mostly rehashed stuff from C.S. Lewis, who is mostly rehashed stuff from Thomas Aquinas. Once in a while one of them will come up with what they think is a unique angle on Pascal’s Wager, or toss out some weirdness they claim comes from quantum mechanics. They generally seem to barely understand their own arguments and, as soon as the ground starts shifting out from under their faith careen off into utter nonsense and threats.
Back when I used to bother debating Christians the discussions nearly always ended with the “hell threat”. My first steps away from Christianity came from realizing that I was worshiping a god who needed a hell. Sharing that tended to offend and infuriate those on the other side. Since I wasn’t really interested in either offending or infuriating them, I began to question the whole reason for the debates and, soon after stopped having them.
Which makes me wonder what a Christian’s purpose might be for being here? If they are starting to wonder about their faith, looking for insight from others who have abandoned faith, it might make a little sense. Christians tend to live in insular worlds. There would simply be no one they could talk to about the crisis of faith they were in. Maybe they come by here hoping that showing up the atheists in some way will support their own, weakening, belief.
One thing I hardly ever see is a Christian with any genuine desire to learn about people who either don’t or have stopped following a faith. Why bother much with those types? Since they seem to me to be the majority, I’ll vote “no” just for grins.

Some Christian forums ban swearing but that is not actually an inhibition to free and open discussion so I have no problem with that as such
But all forums are actually private spaces and as such have the right to ban anyone who does not obey the rules which I think is fair enough

If it weren't for the Christians here I'd probably just spend all my time in the Slack channel. Probably.
