RE: Spam Definition
When spam isn't created by a spam bot it's something so repetitive and anti-discussion that it almost could have been created by a bot.

Think ProgrammingGodJordan if you want an example of a human spammer. He behaved like a spambot.

I firmly believe that he believed in his ideas and wasn't here to troll. But he was anti-discussion.

Garbage discussion isn't the problem. It's being anti-discussion that is the problem. If you want an example of garbage discussion look to Little Rik (who does at least quote and respond to all of Jor's responses to him, for example). If you want an example of anti-discussion look to PGR.

Quote:The spread of e-mail and email harvesting software significantly lowered the cost of sending scam letters by using the Internet.
While Nigeria is most often the nation referred to in these scams, they may originate in other nations as well. For example, in 2006, 61% of Internet criminals were traced to locations in the United States.

America? This came as a huge surprise.

If not for the community elements of this forum, we'd lost most of our patronage, including me.

I have come to my own conclusion that arguing on the internet is a complete waste of time for me. I think many of our members are in the same boat.

I think the Prime Directive allows us to always be better than Facebook. But it is still the internet. There will always be riffraff. The internet is where riffraff lives.

Did I just use the term riffraff? I'm old.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

My favorite restaurant ever is run by two Scottish people, the head chef and his wife, and it has a sign on the wall next to the restaurant bar saying "No riffraff".

Hey!  Spam is quality reconstituted shoulder detritus brined in a mixture of salt, salt, sugar, and potato starch.  It;s basically every food group.
