I don't think it ever was.  One of the oldest known inscriptions, the diplyon does not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dipylon_Inscription

Quote:The text is written in an archaic form of the Greek alphabet, with some letter shapes still resembling those of the original Phoenician alphabet. It is written from right to left, with the individual letters mirror-shaped in comparison with the modern forms. It is placed in a circle around the shoulder of the vessel.

The text is written in majuscule sans punctuation or spaces between words.

Frankly, it's Greek to me.

Be-damned if I can remember where I "learned" that, then. Huh

Not while the Codex Vaticanus still exists.  There are now 5 great uncial texts.... but of course, these date from the 4th century at the earliest which really does not help the jesus freaks, does it?

That's a fake.  It uses letters from the Modern Greek alphabet = http://www.ancientscripts.com/greek.html

It is written in what is called the Alexandrian Text Type which was in usage until supplanted by the Byzantine Text Type in the 8-9th century at least in the East.

In the West, they were still shitting in their pants by then!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandrian_text-type

Quote:The Alexandrian text-type is the form of the Greek New Testament that predominates in the earliest surviving documents, as well as the text-type used in Egyptian Coptic manuscripts. In later manuscripts (from the 9th century onwards), the Byzantine text-type became far more common and remains as the standard text in the Greek Orthodox church and also underlies most Protestant translations of the Reformation era.
