Something young kids today will never understand

RE: Something young kids today will never understand
American kids, at least: a sense of safety and security while at school.

Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni:

"You did WHAT?  With WHO?  WHERE???"

Fear not.  The shithead republicunt governor of Texas will put more armed guards into schools.  That way, except for those astronomically rare occasions where they have to deal with a legitimate problem, they can serve as thugs for the school administration.

Quote:School Resource Officers: Safety Priority or Part of the Problem?

Quote:Instead, she and others says, school resource officers have become more involved in the basic discipline of children, stepping in where teachers previously would have handled low-level misbehavior. A special-needs student at a high school in Texas, for example, was arrested in 2012 by a school resource officer, booked in jail and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after an incident that started with a teacher asking the student to stop talking.

In fact, out of 3,500 student arrests in 11 Texas school districts in 2006-2007, only 20 percent involved violence or a weapon, which usually meant a fist was used, according to a Texas Appleseed report.

BTW, Churchill probably did not say this... certainly not in those exact terms but we certainly seem to try to prove the statement correct at every opportunity.

Yeah, my 15 year old knows what a record player is.

We didn't get a color TV until the 1967 World Series. Mom has a worker's comp. claim and required the TV before any other spending. If not for that money we'd have gotten a color TV when they came in Cracker Jack.

How about being mom and dad's remote control?

Having to sit through a presentation using one of these...

My wife collects antiques. We have a wind-up Victrola that is about 4 feet tall. If she dies before I do, that thing is gone, to the highest bidder.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Don't worry the hipsters brought them back.

And now we have the privilege of paying $30 for albums that we used to get for $5 or less.

Or just raid the LP bin at the local thrift store in hope of scoring some gently-played vinyl that *isn't* Joe Nobody and the Whatsitstown Church Choir sings 'Amazing Grace'.

Kids today can never understand the feeling some of us had that first time we played Pong and thought, "Holy shit, this is awesome! It's a new world!"

I still use that. My husband and I have a digital SLR as well but I have a couple of Hasselblad 500CM medium format cameras and plenty of different lenses. I got them cheap on ebay when prices were rock bottom because everyone was moving to digital.
