My guess is the whole deal's a dead letter since yesterday.

Kim is playing trump like a fiddle.  He knows trump is hobbled by his own lack of credibility.  The release of the photo of trump holding a solute before a North Korean general who had already dropped his is almost certainly calculated to further damage trump’s credibility.  

It is a universal military custom, even between officers of different militaries, for the higher ranking officer to drop his solute first and for the lower ranking officer to hold his solute until the higher ranking officer had dropped his as a mark of deference. So This particular photo is almost certainly selected for Kim to show trump the leader of the great enemy came groveling and paid deference not only to the “young marshal”, but even to just a lower ranking minion, thus authenticating the story of his glorious victory to his domestic audience.

It is also a break in protocol for civilian head of state to return a military solute from non-allied foreign military official.

If Kim was on the level (doubtful) he is foolish for trusting any agreement with the US, especially one signed by Trump.  Our track record in honoring such international agreements isn't that great.  And we all know that Trump is a major liar about everything.  But it might give hime some time tio further consolidate his position.  

BTW, does anyone really believe that North Korea builds its own missiles from scratch?

The first stage of the North Korean missile that could actually hit the US uses Ukrainian liquid fueled rocket engines that were originally designed for Soviet ICBM of the same purpose.  The upper stage can ultimately trace its design ancestry to the Scud medium range ballistic missile.    The mobile launcher vehicle for that missile is based on a Chinese multi-axle heavy cross-country truck which was inturn developed from the chassis of china’s own mobile missile launcher.  

The mobile launcher for shorter range missiles that could hit Guam and hawaii are actual Soviet mobile missile launchers allegedly demilitarized by Ukraine before being sold to North Korea and then remilitarized there.

So a whole crowd of people have a vested interest in ensuring that North Korea has a division of ICBMs.  Why would Kim doublecross them and trust anything that lying Trump says?

It;s useful to point out that..at no point, has noko ever demonstrated that they could deliver a warhead to us soil.
