Roseanne spinoff officially a go on ABC

Roseanne spinoff officially a go on ABC
But without Roseanne Barr.

Quote:After canceling the comedy following star Roseanne Barr's racist tweet, the Disney-owned network has found a way to move forward with the original cast, creators and likely crew as 'The Conners.'

Weeks after its stunning decision to  cancel  , ABC is officially moving forward with a spinoff of TV's current No. 1 series — without controversial star Roseanne Barr.

Trying to think of things about which I care less than this.  The endeavour has met with less than complete success.

Who is the target audience? The half of the country that wasn't interested to begin with, or the half of the country they alienated by dumping Roseanne to being with?

I seldom even remember the "big three" still exist.

I was actually surprised to find out that their last season was the highest rated show for any of the networks. I don't think the show will do well, but I think they did the right thing. Have to give Roseanne a little credit too, she could have been vindictive and kept them from moving forward with the spinoff.

They'll probably cancel the new show after the first season, but it gives a decent win-win-win for everyone involved. Advertisers are still will to pay to air commercials, studio gets paid, cast and crew gets paid for another year while they figure out where they're working next year.

I love John Goodman, and the actor who plays Darlene. But it won’t be the same, and I agree with your assessment.  Overall, while I agree that Barr’s tweet was bad, I think it was a over-reaction by the network. I wouldn’t even of thought is was that racist (although certainly not nice).  But I assume there was more context that I’m missing, because I certainly wouldn’t have known who she was talking about from the tweet that was shown. I can see where it could be racist, but especially when I didn’t know who it was about, that wasn’t my first assumption.

I watched the new version. I may watch it now. The acting is pretty bad, but it's still fun for some reason.

I liked the show. It seemed to make fun of both sides, and showed that they can comprimise and come together as well.
