Someone believed in the show enough to agree to funding the movie. Also, apparently the DVD sold out in 24 hours after the pre-order was announced. Face it, the show has fans, lots of them. I prefer to count success by how many people appreciate the work, not how long a network chose to fund it. The fact that it still has large amounts of fans to this day, with only 13 or so episodes and a movie, speaks volumes.
One full length movie. And I bet if you look deeper into it, the movie itself did not even financially make up for the money put into creating it. Another reason the concept failed.
I believe most people placed entirely too much hype on a show that wasn't even that great; their subjective opinions clouding the fact that they will fight for a lost cause based not on logic but mere emotion.

Number eleven out of twenty-five, even I find that does not make it number one.
In the poll, it only came in first place after the follow-up of the film because people were voting in favor of a return that did not have the backing of particular viewers. Those who voted: only those who liked the show.
