Wear high boots and tuck your pants in when you're wandering around that area. Keep a picture of the thing in case it bites you. Antivenin will do the trick.
*If* I recall correctly, water moccasins will get all, "look at me" before they'll actually bite you, so you have time to back away if you have a chance to see it whip its head back and show its fangs. Very few snakes will actively try to bite you just for being near them. That's why you're usually looking good if you just watch out not to step on one.
Yep. Snakes, venomous or not, aren't much interested in biting anything other than prey unless sick, cornered or threatened. Even then, they typically display in some way or another before they strike. At least, any you're likely to find in North America.
Yeah, mambas and cobras are another story. Fuck that noise. They'll chase your ass.

Harmless snakes tend to have narrower heads and no obvious "neck". This one looks like it has a wide head and a clear neck, that's a clear sign of venomous vs non.
In any case, better safe than sorry and animal control is your best bet!
Yep, we have rattlesnakes here in CA. My daughter (who also likes reptiles!!) and I have been to a nature center - they told us that venomous snakes have angular instead of narrow heads because that's where the venom is. I can't tell the shape of OP's snake's head from the photos, though.
Fun fact: I sorta like snakes too. We found one in the middle of a bike trail recently, I tried to pick it up and move it so it wouldn't get murdered by a passing bicyclist but it reared up at me when I got close. So we decided not to touch it.

Yeah, drunk guy in Oz tried picking up a snake on the side of the road a few years ago.
I think he used up all the anti venom in the state and lost a couple of limbs.

Copperheads will do the same, but they're the least venomous of the venomous snakes here, so.
Cottonmouths do love a good display, like white flowers rising up from the hydrilla, lol.

Poison ropes are only to be moved with 11 foot poles.

I had a cobra slide into the Holiday Inn pool with one once when our ship was visiting Pattaya Beach, Thailand. The tourists were flipping out. I just kept on eye on it and the pool guy dipped it out and threw it over a fence, into another hotel's swimming pool.
