Jogging in my older age

Ran 1 to 1.5 miles daily 5 days a week for two weeks then developed bilateral runners knees. I enjoy running but am.going to have to rethink things. I think I was not using proper form (heel to toe) and pounding the ground in an oafish way. Bought real running shoes and will try again next week or two. If injury recurrs it is back to the speed rope, eliptical, and swimming. I might try spinning.

Good luck. Draughts and pizzas going your way.

The elliptical is great substitute for runners who can't run anymore.

Or biking. I am a former runner, but a knee injury (not running related) fucked it up. I don't get any knee pain from biking and it's way more fun than running. Plus if you are in a city, it's faster than a car in many situations.

RE: Jogging in my older age
Many years ago I fell into a killer deal on a giant Nautilus elliptical machine. I used it for a few years, and was way better fit in the cardiovascular sense, but never lost a friggin' pound.  Dodgy I ended up selling it for a profit and walking the streets in the morning for a lot less money. Tongue  Didn't lose weight that way, either. I got tired of that crap after walking through enough cobwebs that if I had encountered them all at once, I'd've been triced up in a tree and eaten at their leisure. Undecided
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

That's not really a substitute though.  I just can't get into it.

About 8 years ago, I was 80 kg of fitness on wheels.  I ran 12km 3x a week, and hiked 2 hours (more like running on a mountain) 2 days.  I ran a 6 minute mile in-gym almost every day, and I had a 1 mile street course with a hill that I was trying to beat.  I got 6:10 a few times, but I could never beat that damned goal.

Then I got hip problems (like the ball and socket), and had to take a long break.  I was eating like a guy who exercised hard a couple hours a day, and I ballooned up to 115kg.

For me, leaving a physical place and arriving at another place was a huge rush.  I'd push myself the last 1k of my run, sprint full-speed the last 200m, and collapse right after I touched my front door.  I loved that feeling.

I'm now down to about 108kg, and hoping to get to about 95kg by January, and down to 80kg again next year.  I'm doing it almost all in the kitchen-- only very moderate exercise, but only 2 meals a day.

My goal-- almost my reason for living-- is to be able to run again.  But at my age (about 46) if I blow anything out again, I reckon that will be me, done.
