Death

RE: Death
That's pretty funny, I'm exactly like that too.

I get sick of watching people wander around worrying without thinking about it. Most people barely spare a though for anything significant, completely caught up in what they're doing. I hate it.

And I wish I could stop thinking sometimes. You know when you just think and think and well... think? Sometimes its hard to actually stop and just relax.

Or when one idea pops up, I start thinking about it and on and on and on and after a little while, it's a fully fledged, philosophical idea.

I too like thinking about thinking, though it can do your head in every now and then. I joined this forum for some intellectual stimulation - I find the thoughts get more annoying when there's no one to listen to them Smile

RE: Death
Yes I know what you mean....

My thinking about thinking is partly a compulsion...I can't stop it....but then on the other hand its also obsessive in the fact I want to do it....

I enjoy it. And I like being aware of what's going on in my mind. I hate the idea of others not even knowing that they are worrying (thought is so close to us we can easily forget its there...because we have to use IT to be aware of IT!).

I really hate the idea of me being like that.....

So I enjoy it but it also does my head in and I have difficulty stopping when I want to....

I can replace what I'm thinking about but its became like a big habit now so I can't turn it off....

The thing is I don't think I ever could turn it off...its just before I wasn't as aware of my thoughts and you can't really willing fully LOSE awareness I think....

So I kind of have a love/hate relationship with the whole thinking about thinking thing....

I guess I'm just stuck with it and have to think differently before...I'm more aware but its a lot more repetitive. I'm trying to simplify it because when you're totally aware with complicated thoughts all the time it often gets confusing! So most of the time its just totally repetitive and annoying. I'm just trying to make it something USEFUL repetitive and annoying...

So its like love/hate and totally weird....but I have no idea how else to deal with it...I guess I'm stuck with it...and I both dislike and like that. Hm.

RE: Death
I don't want to die, I don't think anyone actually wants to, but I really don't fear it. Why should I waste my time fearing something that will happen no matter how afraid of it I am. It's not like I'm going to know that I am dead anyway. One minute I'm here, the next I'm not. You just have to learn to deal with it.

RE: Death
Exactly. Why should anyone fear death? Perhaps the pain frightens some people, alongside the fact that they don't know what's after death.

I find death fascinating and why it has such a strong hold on most people. However I think it's interesting to point out that humans are unique in their fear of death and the amount of energy we put into avoiding it or making it sound all warm and fuzzy. Animals don't fear death at all, seeing as they have no religions set up to comfort them in times of death Wink

RE: Death
Being brutally honest sure I fear dying, I fear no longer being ... not so much that I'll grab at some fairytale belief system though.

Yeah, I can understand that. It's almost like part of you wishes (god forbid Wink) there was something after death so we didn't just stop 'being'. I've still got that feeling, but when I look at the evidence, I find myself incapable of believing in something just to comfort me.

I don't think any part of me wishes that there is something after death. I find my religious convictions help me to weed out superstitious mumbo jumbo like that. Yes death scares me and I want to live as long as I can as healthily as I can. I can appreciate death is part of life and I fit into that.

RE: Death
If you call yourself a christian, then I'm guessing you believe in heaven?

Sure, death scares christians, but the fright of what's after death is eliminated by the comforting fact of heaven. But how can heaven be comforting if a christian is close to anyone who will go to hell?

RE: Death
Heaven is right here right now. (repeating myself I know, but you seem to have forgotten already). An afterlife is superstitious woo, like I said above. It doesn't comfort me one little bit. I don't believe in it. You can believe that nonsense if you want. I'll stick to mine thanks.
