I meant why anyone would go into a church (and deal with the resulting revulsion) to experience art of some sort that was of the religious persuasion.

I figured Min would probably agree, as some of the most fantastic works of art the Renaissance was capable of producing are housed in Rome, seat of his unholiness the Nazi pope...who apparently defends pedophilia. I'd love to visit Rome, but I'd have to bleach my entire body afterwards. It'd be worth it for art and architecture though.

You do know I was trying to be funny in the paragraph of mine you quoted, don't you?

I'm quite aware of your tone, I was clarifying myself.

I have been inside a couple of Catholic cathedrals and an Anglican one, just out of curiosity. However it wasn't when any services were on mind you.

Just disconnect yourself from the art and the organisation which sponsored it. Back when that art was being made apart from the aristocrats and the emerging merchant classes, the church were the only other sponsors for artists and they often requested that religious works be commissioned for obvious reasons.

Smile I know - Medieval and Renaissance history and art are favorite subjects of mine. Doesn't change the fact that sometimes when visiting the places where the amazing architecture and artwork are located, you run into the portions you DON'T like.

Using a box of tissues is just as clean.

I've been to the Sistine Chapel....and St Peter's. WTF, it was on the tour.

It is truly representative of all that was wrong with xtian Europe that so much of their resources were wasted on superstitious mumbo-jumbo.

People were pouring shit into the street from their windows while all these famed cathedrals were being built. Some of that money should have been invested in a sewer system. Perhaps there would have been a couple of less plagues?

On the plus side....it was amusing to see all the pagan decorations sprinkled around the place by the pious fools.

And least the performance was excellent.

At least you had a good reason why to be in a church. If you were there to listen to a boring 1/2 to 1 hour sermon or 1 hours of singing mind numbing Christian praise songs, then I would question your sanity.
