Cosby Sentence
RE: Cosby Sentence
When I look at teenagers, I see kids, no matter how precocious they are. I walked through a high school today doing orientation with my nephew. Not a single one of those kids looked like an adult to me. Therefore, I definitely think attraction to people of that age is fucked up if you're out of your quite early 20s. I also think that drugging and raping people is bad. I haven't the faintest what the relevance is other than to say atheists don't like Bill Cosby and like Harvey Milk, which is demonstrably false?

Well all huggy had was a weak grasping of straws. I'm sure he's sitting around trying to see how he can spin all this around to be relevant to Cosby. Funny, but he accuses some of the people who have participated in this thread to be white supremacists yet he's the one who's being racist. 9 times out of 10 he's got to bring race into the discussion rather than stick with the actual facts.

RE: Cosby Sentence
He definitely brings race up, but I do try to be a bit sensitive about that because even though racism against white people exists, it's nothing compared to systemic racism against minorities in America. I can forgive a guy for being paranoid. I have no idea what his experience is as a black man. That said, I don't appreciate the insinuation that I would condemn a black man for being black and forgive a white guy because he's white. That's not how I think. I try to work on any biases I detect in myself. I'm not perfect, but I'm definitely not a racist.

I'm not either, nor do I appreciate the insinuation that he lumps all atheists together and assumes we all feel the same way. Especially about a sensitive subject like this.

Yeah, Huggy Bear’s been posting here for years, and the fact that he still assumes that we’re a group of people whose beliefs can easily be lumped together speaks volumes about how little he’s bothered to learn about atheists.

And, just for the record, to further drive the point that we’re not just defending Harvey Milk because he’s gay, well, I have a bit more knowledge than the average person who’s just watched Milk does, but not that much riding on his past being stellar. A better example, and one a bit more germane to the Cosby issue is Kevin Spacey. He’s been in a Lot of great films, and I have to admit, he’s probably one of my favorite living actors. That said, when Anthony Rapp came out with his story about Kevin Spacey, I waited with baited breath to see if these allegations could be corroborated. And it turns out they did. He had a long-standing problem with preying on younger men that started long before I was even born. They reached a point where they had to stop production on The Usual Suspects for a couple days because he was "inappropriate" with one of the other actors. At least EIGHT people who worked on House of Cards with him accused him of sexual harrassment with one accusing him of rape. I have not been able to find ANY indication of the dozens of accusers lying or being part of some plot to bring him down for reasons. As a result, I believe the accusations are true.

I can't say the fact that he most likely has a long history of sexual assault has actually dissuaded me from enjoying roles he's in; Last week, I saw him in Margin Call and was a bit amuses that he, of all people, was playing the most consistently moral person in the room. My favourite film of the 1960s was directed by a rapist and dwells on the consequeneces of rape and abuse in a way that few films do even today, making it all the more surprising that, over a decade later, the director subjected a girl of about 13 to the same things that the heroine of that film is heavily implied to have gone through. That does not change the fact that the evidence points to them doing some horrible things. I love Kevin Spacey the actor, fuck Kevin Spacey the human being. It's not about how he fits in with our in-groups and out-groups for me; it's where the evidence leads.

No he was not.

Was Cosby convicted of rape.

Yes he was.

Did a large number of other women say he raped them , yes they did.

So you defend the convicted rapist and vilify the person not charged or convicted and you call me hypocrite.

So let me get this straight.

Are you and Judy saying that if a person commits a crime but is not convicted he should get a pass?

Not really, I stated that if Cosby was a gay man, DBP would be defending him. As you can see, I wasn't wrong.

LOL Figures that'd be the takeaway you got from what we said.

I think we're done here because either you're intentionally being obtuse or you really are this fucking stupid.

But he's not gay so the fact that you again, try to spin something out of the air that has NOTHING to do with the PD of this thread, is just incredible.

First - you get your panties in a twist because the victim won and you felt he didn't get a fair trial due to the fact that you didn't like the evidence that was presented.

Then you try, as usual, to play the race card.

When that didn't work, you took a totally unrelated an rather irrelevant post of DBP's that you decided to quote mine out of context, that had fuck all to do with Cosby or any of his accusers, and attempted to spin it into this thread. I'm not even going to address what you quote mined of mine. We all know you'll just keep on getting away with it. Whatever. The point is that several of us wasted many pages calling you out and telling you how off the mark you are with bringing up an example that had nothing to do with Cosby and wasn't even in the same realm of reality as Cosby's trial.

Technically - you should have received at the least, a temporary ban for doing that since it's against the rules to take posts out of context and you've done it a few times before, but oh well. You get to stay and play on the playground for whatever reasons. And no - that's not a dig at staff. It's just frustrating to see you skirt the rules so well that your quote mining is constantly subject to opinion-based decisions and not based on the fact that yes, you do in fact, break the quote mining rule here. You've become a professional at pissing people off while staying right under the line. Bravo!

And now you're going for the "but you'd defend him if he was gay" angle, again? Why? Because you have nothing left to argue after we've dismissed everything you've tried to throw at us? Puleaze. Get a fucking grip.

The bottom line to this entire bullshit thread topic is that Cosby was found guilty. He is now a registered sex offender. His lawyers will appeal it based on things they didn't agree with. You can't rush the outcome and you aren't on his legal defense team so what you're whining about in a forum, is beyond me. Sometimes I think you just need to look for something to argue about because, well, that's a thing you do.

This has NOTHING to do with Harvey Milk or Harvey Milk's sexual orientation or the fact that he was a disgusting pervert who had an unhealthy and immoral relationship with a 16 year old child. Everyone involved with that situation is dead. You bringing it up, in this thread is a moot point. Let it go already because it doesn't have anything to do with this thread topic. If you want to talk about Harvey Milk, start a new thread, man. Trying to talk about it in this thread is against the PD in the rules.

I'd ask what the ever loving fuck is wrong with you but anyone who's been here for any length of time already knows.

You need Jesus.
